Misericordia baseball’s pursuit of a second straight NCAA tournament regional crown was put on hold Saturday.

The Cougars’ matchup with Keystone in the winner’s bracket final was moved to 9 a.m. Sunday at Tambur Field.

Misericordia is hosting the four-team, double-elimination bracket, with the winner advancing to a Super Regional series prior to the Division III College World Series.

The tournament opened Friday with Misericordia beating St. John Fisher 5-2 for the Cougars’ seventh straight win, a streak that includes a MAC Freedom championship. Keystone defeated Middlebury in the other opening round game.

Only one game was able to be played on Saturday with Middlebury edging St. John Fisher 9-8 in 10 innings of an elimination game.

Misericordia and Keystone will open a scheduled tripleheader on Saturday morning. The loser of that matchup will then take on Middlebury in an elimination game at noon.

The championship round is set to begin later Sunday at a time to be determined. If necessary, a rematch to decide the regional champion will be held on Monday.

The Cougars are 34-9 on the season and are seeking their second straight trip to the College World Series.

    RAILRIDERS POSTPONED

Inclement weather also postponed Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s road game at Worcester.

The RailRiders and Red Sox will play a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 1:05 p.m. They will play two seven-inning games with approximately 30 minutes between games.
