ASHLEY — A New York man was charged with felony assault on allegations he interfered Ashley police conducting a traffic stop Friday night.

Jeury R. Gonzales-Brito, 21, of Tarrytown, exited a vehicle and approached Ashley officers involved in a traffic stop of another vehicle in the area of South Main and Coalville streets at about 6:40 p.m., according to court records.

Gonzales-Brito yelled profanities, got in the face of officers and a tow truck operator, and refused repeated commands to leave the area, court records say.

As Gonzalez-Brito stood close to officers and the tow truck operator, court records say, saliva from his mouth struck the faces of the officers and tow truck operator while he was yelling.

Gonzalez-Brito was taken into custody when he refused to leave the area and ignored officers’ commands to stop yelling.

Police stopped the initial vehicle for having heavily tinted windows, court records say.

Gonzales-Brito was arraigned by District Judge Michael Dotzel of Wilkes-Barre Township on charges of aggravated assault, obstructing law enforcement and disorderly conduct. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $25,000 bail.
