In partnership with Swoyersville, Forty Fort will hold its annual National Night Out from 5:30 to 8 p.m Friday at the Forty Fort soccer fields on Camryn Way.

The end-of-summer event will bring the two communities together for an evening of food and fun activities, in an effort to strengthen partnerships with local first responders and outreach programs.

“It’s a great way for the community to get exposure to see what resources are available to them in their own backyard,” said Forty Fort Council member Cara Devine.

Attendees can expect police and agency demonstrations, a bounce house for the kids, raffle giveaways, an ice cream truck, music from DJ Donnie Evans, and more.

This year, the NEPA Cricket Association, which officially inaugurated the sports complex in Forty Fort as its home field back in May, will have a health clinic set up as well.

Forty Fort Mayor Brian Thomas said National Night Out will be “a really family-orientated evening” that will give people, especially children, a chance to interact with first responders in a positive and educational way.

Devine echoed these sentiments, adding, “It allows everyone to see law enforcement and first responders as people rather than just a uniform.”

In addition to law enforcement officers from several departments, members of the Kingston Forty Fort Fire Department and the department of public works will also be in attendance.

“It started small and every year it’s gotten bigger and we’ve added more agencies and community outreach organizations,” Devine explained.

The duck hunt will make its return this year as well.

Rubber ducks are currently hidden all across Swoyersville and Forty Fort, at landmarks and outside of businesses. If you find one and bring it to National Night Out, you will be given a gift card for Dunkin’ Donuts, sponsored by the Cricket Association.

Everyone who finds a duck and brings it to the event will also be entered for a chance to win a family pack to Kalahari Resort in Poconos, also sponsored by the Cricket Association.

Bikes will be given away as well.

Check out the Forty Fort Borough Facebook page for more information on the duck hunt and the various organizations participating in the event.
