HENDERSONVILLE - A ninth Ingles grocery store is coming soon to Henderson County, and it will be the fifth one in Hendersonville once it's completed.

According to Henderson County permit records, the new Ingles is being built at 6034 Asheville Highway, which is just outside Fletcher town limits in Hendersonville. The Ingles is less than a mile from Smiley's Flea Market.

Matt Champion, Henderson County Code Services Director and Zoning Administrator, told the Times-News on May 9 that the county received the major site plan from Ingles in July 2023.

"The Technical Review Committee issued a conditional approval for the major site plan on Aug. 15, 2023. Since then, the developer has been obtaining the necessary permits to begin construction on the site," he said. "As of now, the developer has obtained all necessary permits to begin construction."

The site plan shows a 96,120 square-foot grocery store, along with an additional standalone structure containing 9,600 square feet of retail space. There will also be a 6,156-square-foot convenience store with fuel pumps.

This will be the ninth Ingles in Henderson County. Other locations are listed below.

    • 1980 Asheville Highway, Hendersonville
    • 3643 Howard Gap Road, Hendersonville
    • 1705 Brevard Road, Hendersonville
    • 625 Spartanburg Highway, Hendersonville
    • 2901 Hendersonville Road, Fletcher
    • 3338 Boylston Highway, Mills River
    • 6400 Brevard Road, Etowah
    • 220 North Highland Lake Road, Flat Rock

Founded in 1963 by Robert Ingle, Ingles now operates approximately 200 stores in six southeastern states with annual sales of almost $4 billion, according to its website at https://www.ingles-markets.com/. Ingles self-distributes its stores' merchandise from its distribution center in Black Mountain.

Land Planning Associates based in Easley, South Carolina, submitted the application for the construction. A call seeking the expected completion date of the project to Land Planning Associates wasn't immediately returned on May 10.

Hopefully this one won’t turn its customers & employees into icicles in the summer when shopping. I was told home office controls the temps & they keep it as cold as the North Pole due to outdated freezers - Per the store on Howard’s Gap Rd- I wish more competition would move into Hendersonville. I would ditch Ingles in a second.
