Long-time county employees will take over two San Diego County offices – economic development and government affairs and communications.

Matthew Parr will be the new director of the Office of Economic Development and Government Affairs; Parr had served as interim director for several months. Tammy Glenn also has been selected as director of the county’s Communications Office.

Each begins their new roles Friday.

Parr was deputy director of strategy and intergovernmental affairs, which includes management of the Board of Supervisors’ legislative program and oversight of the county’s state and federal legislation advocacy strategy and budget policies.

Under his direction, the county successfully advanced a variety of legislative efforts, including passage of Assembly Bill 636 enhancing protections for seniors, Senate Bill 872 delivering health services through mobile pharmacies, as well as state and federal funding for the CARE Act and SB 43 implementation to provide behavioral health support.

The county’s Communications Office, which Glenn will oversee, offers public and employee communications along with community engagement and language services.

She’ll take on the new role as long-time director Michael Workman – rehired as interim director as a retiree earlier this year – prepares to leave the county next month.

Glenn joined the county in 2007 and has been assistant director of the communications office since 2012.

She has led the Joint Information Center at the county’s Emergency Operations Center during regional emergencies, working with local, state and federal partners. She and her team manage County News Center and social media to provide updates to the public, the county’s TV station which airs board meetings and Engage San Diego County, where people can provide input on projects.
