Movie set buffs and diehard Prince fans, get ready to step inside the cinematic world of Purple Rain. As part of Airbnb’s new Icons series, the two-story home featured in Prince’s 1984 film is opening its doors to the public for the first time. And a select group of people will actually get to spend the night.

Prince purchased the Minneapolis-based house located at 3420 Snelling Avenue in 2015, the year before his tragic passing at age 57. While it’s not certain what he planned to do with it, with the support of Paisley Park Enterprises, LLC, and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, the home was recently meticulously restored and converted into a museum-like homage to the legendary artist.

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the film and soundtrack that propelled Prince’s career into the stratosphere, the iconic home has been re-imagined as an immersive experience, allowing guests to witness where Purple Rain brought to life the struggles and triumphs of Prince’s character, “The Kid.”

Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman, members of Prince’s band at the time, The Revolution, are serving as hosts of the Airbnb. No, you won’t run into them as you’re checking in, but the duo has recorded commentary and insights that guests can access by scanning QR codes throughout the house.

“The Purple Rain house stands as a tribute to our dear friend Prince, the timeless character he brought to life, and the lasting impact he continues to have,” Wendy and Lisa shared. “We hope the space gives fans a glimpse into the eclectic world Prince created, and visitors walk away feeling a little bit closer to him as an artist and person.”

    About the Experience

The Purple Rain house is no ordinary movie set. Every room is thoughtfully curated with authentic pieces and memorabilia from Prince’s personal collection, allowing fans to step inside the vibrant world that only he could create. The space will be available for 25 one-night stays, with up to four guests each night.

Here’s some highlights of what guests can expect during their unforgettable visit:

    Basement Bedroom: The Kid’s Sanctuary

The moment you enter the home, you might want to head straight for the basement to The Kid’s bedroom, because this is the place that will most bring you back to Purple Rain. You’ll immediately notice the seductive eyes on the wall above the bed, an image straight from the film and album sleeve. Look around and you’ll find a replica of his white Cloud guitar, mannequins and face masks, and an ‘80s boom box for playing Prince’s personal cassette tape collection. It’s okay — go crazy.

Bathroom: Inspired by ‘When Doves Cry’

The bathroom is a scene-stealer, designed to evoke the surreal visuals of the “When Doves Cry” music video and Prince’s 1984 Purple Rain tour. With stained-glass windows, a claw-foot tub, lavender bath bombs, and a plush purple robe, there’s a lot to soak in. Wendy, is the water warm enough?

Music Lounge: Jam with Prince on Purple Rain

A musician’s haven, the lounge invites guests to explore their inner rockstar. Complete with an upright piano, drums, and guitar, the space features a scene from the movie on one wall that’s made entirely of cassette tapes. And here’s a special touch — scan the QR code, and Wendy and Lisa will teach you how to play the chorus of “Purple Rain” set to Prince’s pre-recorded audio. Baby, you’re a star.

    Closet: A Gallery of Style

The spacious upstairs closet—part mini-museum, part dress-up factory — will appeal to those who appreciate the artist’s one-of-a-kind fashion. Some of Prince’s legendary outfits, like the iconic purple moire coat he wore when performing “Purple Rain” in the film, are displayed behind protective glass. But if you want to dress the part, there’s also a collection of ’80s-inspired outfits you can try on. Check that mirror, beautiful one.

Secret Room: If You Can Find It

Every Prince fan knows to expect the unexpected, and the Purple Rain house doesn’t disappoint here. Somewhere within its walls is a secret room accessible only by activating a hidden door. If you’re lucky enough to get inside, you’ll find a faux vinyl album that holds seven clues. Solve these, and you will unlock a treasure trove of rewards u would die 4.

    More Than Just a Movie

Released in 1984, the film Purple Rain grossed close to $100 million and earned Prince an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. The soundtrack, which received two Grammys, held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 for 24 weeks and has sold over 25 million copies worldwide. Nearly four decades later, both the film and album remain touchstones of popular music culture, making this Airbnb stay an unparalleled experience.

How to Book the ‘Purple Rain’ House

Fans can request to book the Purple Rain house through Oct. 6 by visiting airbnb.com/prince. The stays will take place from Oct. 26 to Dec. 14, and cost only $7 a night per person, a nod to Prince’s favorite number. A pool of potential guests will be chosen at random from all applicants; the final invitations will be sent to those who best answer the question, “Why do you want to stay here?” If you’re selected, could you please take me with u?
