Hilton San Diego Bayfront workers have overwhelmingly ratified a new contract following a 38-day strike, Unite Here Local 30 said Wednesday evening.

Of the 700 workers who took part in the strike, 94% approved the new pact, officials said in a news release. They sought better wages and working conditions.

The new four-year contract includes what Local 30 called “significant wage increases” for both non-tipped and tipped hotel workers and boosts to workers’ pensions and healthcare funds.

The deal also covers improvements to workloads, anti-harassment language, changes to tip/gratuity policies for restaurant and banquet workers and enhanced paid time off and holidays.

Hilton San Diego Bayfront hotel workers were among 10,000 workers nationwide who have gone on strike since Labor Day. Strikes continue in Boston, Honolulu and San Francisco.

More strikes are possible, including for Local 30 members at the Hotel del Coronado. The workers authorized a strike last week.

“This is a great contract for the Hilton Bayfront workers and Local 30. We knew we could win if we continued to move forward,” said Brigette Browning, president of Local 30.

Yenifer Alonso, a housekeeper at the Hilton Bayfront, called the new pact “a life-changing contract.”

“We never thought we were going to be on strike for so long, but we knew we had to keep fighting in solidarity,” she said.
