A suspect was arrested Wednesday in connection with a stabbing at a San Marcos-area high school.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said they received a call from a person who claimed to have been stabbed at Mission Hills High School. Deputies found the victim on campus..

He was taken to the nurse’s office for treatment, then to a local hospital. The department said that he had serious injuries, but he is expected to survive.

Deputies were given information at the school about a possible suspect in the stabbing and arrested him at his home a short time later.

Both the victim and the suspect are students at the school, the sheriff’s department said.

The high school was placed on lockdown just before 3:40 p.m., and authorities lifted the order a few minutes later after the suspect was arrested.

“The safety of our school children is a priority for the Sheriff’s Office,” said a statement from the department. “We take all threats seriously.”

The department added that students who hear about any threats or potential violence can always approach school resource deputies or call the anonymous Students Speaking Out Hotline at (888) 580-8477.

    The investigation is ongoing.
