The San Diego Padres made plenty of mid-season trades in an attempt to bolster their major league roster for the chance at a World Series championship, which came at the cost of many of their top minor league prospects.

San Diego ultimately fell short in the postseason, and they will look to chase another championship next season with a strong roster, one that could include their top remaining prospect.

Catcher Ethan Salas, the 19th ranked prospect in baseball according to MLB.com, has been playing well in his time at the Arizona Fall League. The Fall League sees seven prospects get sent from each major league team, and Salas has performed with the best of them thus far.

Following Saturday’s games, Salas is tied for second in the league with five doubles in 33 plate appearances, tied with Robert Hassell of the Washington Nationals and Alejandro Osuna of the Texas Rangers, and behind only Colt Emerson of the Seattle Mariners. Hassell was drafted by the Padres and traded to Washington in the Juan Soto trade in 2022.

In his seven games played in the Fall League, Salas sports a .333 hitting average with 11 total hits. The catcher has driven in 10 runs through eight games, including four RBI in Peoria’s 8-7 loss to Mesa.

The Padres organization hopes to see continued success for their top prospect throughout the remainder of the Arizona Fall League, as well as into next season.
