    Area basketball teams find out new divisions

    COLUMBUS — Area basketball teams found out their new divisions, as boys and girls basketball will expand to seven divisions next season.

    The Ohio High School Athletic Association released the preliminary numbers on Monday.

    Maysville, the Division II state runner-up, will drop to Division IV in boys, along with John Glenn, Philo, Cambridge, New Lexington and West Muskingum.

    Tri-Valley, Sheridan and Zanesville are now in Division III, while Meadowbrook, Morgan, Coshocton, River View and Ridgewood will be Division V, Buckeye Trail and Crooksville are Division VI and Rosecrans is in Division VII.

    Divisions IV, VI and VII will get one representative to the regional and Division V will get two teams.

    For girls, Tri-Valley, Sheridan and Zanesville will be classified in Division III, while John Glenn, Maysville, Philo, River View, Cambridge, Meadowbrook and Morgan are now Division IV.

    New Lexington, West Muskingum and Coshocton move to Division V; Ridgewood, Crooksville and Buckeye Trail are Division VI, and Rosecrans will be Division VII.

    Division IV and V will get two teams to the regional, while VI and VII get one representative for the East District.

    Boys Wrestling divisions will be announced in June, while girls wrestling will remain one division. Bowling and swimming will also remain two divisions.
