    Weekend Roundup: Underwood notches career milestone in Coshocton win

    Soccer and volleyball opened this weekend, and here are results:

    Saturday's results

    Girls Soccer

    Coshocton 4, Maysville 1: The Redskins built a 3-0 halftime lead and gave coach Kimmie Underwood her 100th career win in a Muskingum Valley League victory over the Panthers.

    "It was a great team win to start off the season. I love the teamwork and communication we are already showing early in the season," Underwood said. "It was a great game to get all our freshmen's feet wet at the varsity level."

    Underwood wanted to thank all her former and current players on helping reach this milestone. She credited them for working hard and never quitting, adding, "This 100th win is a testament to all the quality girls I have gotten to coach these 11 seasons."

    Zoey Tumblin opened the scoring with a breakaway goal about 10 minutes into the match. Tumblin then assisted Jersey Stipes' goal, and Tumblin added her second goal later in the first half.

    Maysville got on the board in the second half on a goal by Lexi Atkins, while Tumblin completed her hat trick with 14 minutes left in the match.

    Courtney Snyder had five saves for Coshocton, which owned a 19-6 edge in shots and welcomes Philo at 5 p.m. Monday.

    Rosecrans 13, Grove City Christian 0: Sydnee Maxwell scored four times, and Lillie Dosch added two, as nine Bishops found the back of the net in a Mid-State League opener.

    Maddie Pugh, Jackie Cornell, Mallory Moody, Ryleigh Maxwell, Kate Pugh, Maggie Scott and Elle Jones also had goals, while Abby Sagan and Brynn Newton had assists for Rosecrans, which hosts Fisher Catholic at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

    Sheridan 1, Heath 0: Addy Crane scored off a corner by B. Moorehead in the final minutes as the Generals opened the season with a win.

    They host Maysville in their home opener at 5 p.m. Monday.

    Ridgewood 2, Carrollton 1: Kathryn Kelley and Pru Fechuch scored goals as the Generals moved to 2-0 with a victory over the Warriors.

    Keira Schrock made 17 saves in net for Ridgewood.

    Watkins Memorial 6, Zanesville 1: Aubri Cooke had the lone goal in the loss for the Lady Devils, who host Lakewood on Wednesday.

    Reyna Dalton had 14 stops for Zanesville, while Kiley Barrera scored twice and assisted another to lead Watkins.

    Warren 13, New Lexington 1: The Warriors topped the Panthers in the season opener.

    Volleyball

    Crooksville wins two: The Ceramics swept the Bishops 25-23, 25-13 and also topped Maysville 25-21, 18-25, 25-7 in the season-opening triangular.

    Erica Flood passed out 20 assists with three kills, three digs and three aces. Gracie Ferguson hit eight kills with three aces, and Brynn Lundell added seven kills and six digs for the Ceramics against the Panthers.

    Bekah Scott made 12 digs, Avery Daniels hit five kills with 11 digs and two aces, Kaitlyn Clark added nine assists, six digs and two aces and Sailor Atkins made eight digs with two kills for Maysville.

    The Panthers also beat Rosecrans 19-25, 25-21, 25-14, as Haylee Cornett totaled seven kills, Atkins chipped in six kills, six digs and three aces and Scott had seven digs, two kills and two aces. The Bishops were led by Kinslie McVicker with eight assists and two aces, Sophia Scott with five kills and Maddi Pugh with three kills and two aces.

    Buckeye Trail 25, 25, 25, Edison 14, 9, 13: The Warriors opened the season with a sweep of the Wildcats during Saturday's season-opening match.

    Sydney Patterson paced the Trial attack with 14 points, including seven aces with Anna McVicker adding 12 points, seven kills, five aces along with a team-high 21 assists. Karsyn Oldson chipped in with eight points, two aces and four assists, while Vayda Neuhart finished with six points, two digs and a game-high nine kills.

    Steubenville 25, 25, 25, Cambridge 15, 15, 18: The Bobcats struggled to the three-set loss during Saturday's season-opening match.

    "A slow start and inconsistent play did not help us today," CHS head coach Lyndsey Hummell said. "Moving forward, we need to start in a game-ready mindset. We will use this defeat to learn from our errors and make adjustments moving forward."

    Jaylyn Lincicome racked up 10 digs, two kills and three points with an ace, while Bailey Anderson finished with seven points and two aces, 11 kills and nine digs and Kinzie Johnston added three kills, six digs, five points and one ace.

    Gwen Jefferis tallied eight points, four digs and18 assists, while Miranda Cole contributing three kills, one block and one dig.

    Meadowbrook 25, 25, 25, Heath 22, 20, 13: The Colts took down the Bulldogs in the season opening sweep with Katie Stoney leading the way with a match high 17 points and 12 kills and Journey Nicola racking up 26 digs.

    Natalee Norman added 14 points with 12 kills, while Sommer Ginn finished with 11 points, six digs, three kills. Addy Sichina handed out a team high 35 assists along with eight digs, three points.

    West M drops two: The Tornadoes fell 25-20, 25-15 to Lakewood and 25-9, 25-10 to Fairfield Union.

    Riley Savage had five kills, Bella Ewert and Brooke Beight made 11 digs, Lucy Thorne added nine digs and Ewert passed out 11 assists for West M in the loss to Lakewood, while Thorne totaled four kills, Beight added six digs and Ewert had seven assists in the loss to Fairfield Union.

    Bloom Carroll 25, 25, 25, Sheridan 18, 16, 15: The Generals fell in their home opener to the Bulldogs.

    Payton Powell finished with five kills, eight digs, six assists and three blocks, Dylan Fox made 10 digs with seven assists, four kills and three aces and Halle Warner had three blocks to lead Sheridan.

    Boys Soccer

    River View 4, Morgan 2: The Black Bears opened the season with a MVL win against the Raiders.

    Warren 17, New Lexington 0: The Warriors topped the Panthers in the season opener.

    Boys Golf

    River View at Mt. Vernon Invite: Gavin Gress finished in third place with a 3-under-par 69 and made the All-Tournament team as the Black Bears competed in the Kent Miller Invitational.

    Caleb Kline tied for 14th with a 75, and Reid Johnson carded 108 for River View.

    Friday's results

    Boys Soccer

    John Glenn 10, Cambridge 0: Will Nicolozakes knocked in five goal as the Muskies led 7-0 at the break in the season-opening win.

    Oakley Zamensky added two goals, and Ben Stamm, Kelton K. and Dane McGee also scored for John Glenn.

    Maysville 5, St. Clairsville 1: Cam Parker knocked in four goals, and Zach Howell also scored in the Panthers' opening win.

    Aiden Brown assisted Parker's two goals in the first half, while Carson Shockley assisted Howell's score in the first half as Maysville led 3-0 at the half. Dawson Harper made six saves in the win.

    Parker Galloway scored the lone goal for St C.

    Maysville plays Sheridan on Tuesday followed by a big early season match against River View on Thursday at the MAC.

    Watkins Memorial 5, Zanesville 2: Cam Van Kirk scored one goal and assisted Garrett McMillion's tally in a Licking County League loss.

    Greyson Goines had 13 saves for Zanesville, which will host New Philadelphia at 7 p.m. Monday.

    Philo 2, Granville Christian 2: The Electrics battled to a draw in their season opener as Trace Wilson and Gage Wickham had goals for Philo.

    Jordan Lawler made four saves for the Electrics.

    West Muskingum 0, Johnstown 0: The Tornadoes and Johnnies opened the season with a scoreless draw as Michael Hobbs recorded the shutout and Silas Kuhn highlighted the West M effort.

    Marietta 3, Tri-Valley 0: The Tigers shut out the Scotties in the season opener.

    Tree of Life 4, Rosecrans 1: The Bishops fell to the Trojans in their season opener.

    Girls Soccer

    West Muskingum 2, Johnstown 0: Jayden Thornton and Lyla Johnson each scored as the Tornadoes opened the season with a win.

    Debra Allen had an assist, and Kyndall Fountain made seven stops in the shutout.

    Ridgewood 1, River View 0: The Generals had just two shots on goal, but Kathryn Kelley made one of them, collecting a loose ball and scoring from 30 yards out off an assist by Katie Seitz.

    Kiera Schrock was outstanding in the goal for Ridgewood, recording 16 saves.

    Golf

    West Muskingum boys 158, Rosecrans 212: Medalist Reid Lemity fired a 38, and Hayden Lambert added a 39 as the Tornadoes won at Jaycees.

    Jack Touvell carded a 40, and Clayton Clewell shot a 41 for West M; Evan Bauer had a 45 to lead the Bishops, while Cohen Todd shot 48, Noah Moore 59 and Jordan Joseph 60.

    Ridgewood girls 181, Edison 212: Medalist Brynn Harstine made two birdies among her 1-over par 37 in the Generals' win at River Greens.

    Jacey Hess added a 44, Josie Stanton a 46 and Zoe Martin a 54 for Ridgewood, while Callie McKeegan had a 48, Katie Phillips a 52 and Bella Evans and Gwen Stine 56s for Edison.
