    Saturday Roundup: Zanesville, Sheridan girls soccer fall in tough matches

    Here is a look around a busy Saturday of high school sports:

    Girls soccer

    Newark 3, Zanesville 2: Aubri Cooke scored to give the Lady Devils a 1-0 halftime lead, but the Wildcats rallied to get the win.

    Ayanna Stewart also added a goal in the second half for Zanesville.

    Liberty Union 3, Sheridan 2: Beckett Strong and Dylan Gibbs scored, but the Generals (3-1) suffered their first loss of the season to the Lions.

    Brooke Cadigan and Brenna Moorehead had assists for Sheridan.

    Coshocton 3, Ridgewood 1: Zoey Tumblin beat a pair of defenders for a goal late in the first half to spark Coshocton past the Generals.

    Tumblin added her second goal early in the second half, and Jersey Stipes scored off a long pass from Ava Hall for the winners, while Pru Fechuch finished a pass from Kat Kalley in the final 90 seconds for Ridgewood's goal.

    Courtney Snyder made seven saves for Coshocton.

    Maysville 3, Westfall 0: Kelsie Lee scored twice and Miley Fulkerson also scored to give the Panthers their first win.

    Kyrie Valentine assisted on all three scores and keeper Josalynn Milatovich had seven saves as the defense posted a shutout.

    Tri-Valley 2, West Holmes 2: Nevaeh Peffers scored off a Maddie Garber assist then Peffers found Garber for the Scotties' second goal in the draw.

    MacKenzie Harvey made five saves for Tri-Valley, while Charli Murphy scored both goals from West Holmes.

    Cross country

    Sheridan's Ruthers runner-up at Pick North: Tate Ruthers posted a time of 15:41, finishing second to Dublin Jerome's Charles Guerrera, who ran a winning time of 15:31, at the Pickerington North Classic.

    The Generals were 10th as a team with Hudson Wilson in 35th (16:59) and Henry Taylor 78th (17:41), while Tri-Valley (18th) also ran with Dalton Crozier leading the way in 82nd (17:42).

    The Sheridan (16th) and Tri-Valley girls (20th) also competed in the Black Division. The Generals were paced by Sheriden Glanemann in 14th (20:09) and Nora Covey in 66th (21:33), while the Scotties were led by Erin Hogue in 50th (21:12).

    John Glenn and Morgan were in the Silver Division. The Raider boys came in 10th and the Muskies 14th, as Clark Smith placed 24th (17:37) and Rayden Tom 52nd (18:53) for Morgan and Ethan Zell was 22nd (17:34) and Isaac Duran 65th (19:17) for John Glenn.

    In the girls race, John Glenn was 12th and Morgan 14th. The Muskies were paced by Ashlynn Kuklica, who won the race in 19:16 with teammate Mackenzie Welch in 34th (23:43), while Elana Wilson led the Raiders in 53rd (24:47).

    Area teams run at Marietta: Jacob Agin from West M led area boys in 13th (18:11); as three teams competed in the Elizabeth Broughton Memorial Invitational.

    Philo was led by Ryan Morris was 20th (18:58) and Anthony Stidom 30th (20:06) and Buckeye Trail was paced by Cody Ward in 36th (20:44) and Carter Johnson in 37th (21:04).

    In the girls race, West M's Ayla Mowery finished 10th (22:03) and Sydney Bollinger 39th (27:20); the Warriors' Kloie Eagon came in 17th (23:35); and Emma Swope placed 35th (26:41) and Caitlyn Bowen 43rd (28:51) to lead the Electrics;

    Meadowbrook girls second at Claymont: The Colts had three runners in the top seven to finish second in the Big School race at the Claymont Invitational.

    Karrah Singleton came in third (21:04), Marabelle Thornberry fourth (21:19), Luceilia Casey seventh (21:48), Grace Kackley 14th (23:08) and Haylie Chorey 27th (24:29) as Meadowbrook had 55 points to 52 by first-place Louisville.

    River View took eighth with Emma Cochran in 25th (24:13), Ashlyn Tumblin in 29th (24:32) and Taryn Tumblin 30th (24:33), while Cambridge was led by Skye Craft in 37th (25:21).

    Ridgewood came in third in the Small School girls with Xanya Hasham in 26th (25:16) and Layla Moore 30th (25:28), while Zanesville was eighth, paced by Miah Wilcox in 43rd (27:21) and Shelbie Hammersley in 47th (28:23) and Maysville was ninth, led by Olivia Rusnak in 25th (25:00).

    River View boys were fifth, Cambridge eighth and Meadowbrook 10th in the Big School race. Trey Skjold (18:11) placed 13th, Landon Cochran 19th (18:37) and Aidan Stevens-Woolery 22nd (18:46) for the Black Bears; Brayden Biddle finished 18th (18:32) and Dawson Spratt 33rd (19:44) to lead the Bobcats; and Grady Forbes took 48th (20:55) to pace the Colts.

    The Ridgewood boys were ninth in the Small School Division, as Aydan Salmon came in 28th (19:11) and Brodi Hardesty 36th (19:22), while Zanesville was led by Nick Caldwell in 45th (19:44).

    Volleyball

    West M falls short of Tornado Classic title: Utica topped the Tornadoes 25-11, 25-8 to win the title, while John Glenn finished third at the event.

    West M opened with a 26-24, 15-25, 25-19 win over Northridge, as Olivia Drabik had 17 assists, five kills and eight digs, Lucy Thorne hit five kills and served four aces and Ayla Tilton made 11 digs for the Tornadoes.

    In a 25-17, 25-12 win over Liberty Christian, Tilton hit six kills, Jules Bennett added five kills, Drabik made nine digs with 14 assists and Thorne added eight digs, while against Utica, Thorne had three kills, Bella Ewert served two aces, Tilton made 13 digs, Brooke Beight chipped in six digs and Drabik had seven assists.

    The Muskies (3-2) defeated Crooksville 26-24, 23-25, 26-24, as Lauren Blair had 26 assists and 13 digs, Faith Saxton and Brynli Cavezza nine kills, Sophie Emerson 15 digs, Karleigh Webster 4 kills, two aces and 10 digs, Mya Stamm five kills and Ava Harmon three kills and three digs.

    John Glenn then lost to Utica 20-25, 26-24, 15-25, as Cavezza totaled 10 kills and three blocks, Karleigh Webster nine kills and eight digs, Blair 23 assists and 13 digs, Saxton four kills and three digs, Sophia Markel 13 digs, Emerson seven digs and Brelynn Barr 10 digs.

    John Glenn topped Northridge 26-24, 25-21 for third, as Saxton collected six kills and four blocks, Webster five kills and three digs, Cavezza four kills, Blair 18 assists and six digs, Barr five digs and three aces, Miley Ault two blocks and Olivia Marshall four digs.

    Maysville falls to Licking Valley, Ridgewood: The Panthers lost 25-22, 25-15 to Valley, as Bekah Scott made 15 digs, Sailor Atkins had six digs and four kills and Avery Daniels added seven digs and two kills.

    In a 25-16, 26-24 loss to Ridgewood, Atkins had eight digs and three kills, Haylee Cornett three kills, two digs and two blocks, Bella VanWey two kills and two blocks and Kaitlyn Clark six assists and three digs. Anyssa Cutlip tallied eight points and a pair of aces for the Generals.

    Ridgewood lost 28-26, 25-23, as Sidney Hains had seven points to highlight the Generals' effort against Licking Valley.

    Cambridge 25, 25, 23, 25, Rosecrans 17, 14, 25, 21: Bailey Anderson led the Bobcats with 27 kills, 18 points and 16 digs and Isabelle Edwards added eight kills, 12 points with a pair of aces, and eight digs to score the first win of the season.

    Alea Jones added 13 digs and 12 points, Kadence Hanes eight kills; Kinzie Johnston nine points with four aces and 12 digs; Gwen Jefferis six points and 42 assists and Jaylyn Lincicome 10 points and 10 digs for Cambridge.

    River View 25, 27, 26, Indian Valley 22, 25, 24: Haley Balo hit 17 kills and Kelsie Smith had 31 assists and 31 digs with 100% serving, as the Bears outlasted the Braves in a three-set thriller.

    Layla Olinger chipped in 11 digs, nine kills and two aces, Ava Donnell had seven kills, Lindyn Fry made 16 digs, Avie Wright had two blocks and Audrey Buxton served two aces in the win.

    River View reserves lost 25-16, 25-21, as Karli Stickdorn had five points and Mallory Grimmett four points.

    Philo 25, 25, 25, West Holmes 21, 22, 20

    Boys soccer

    River View 4, Newark 1: Parker Andrews, Hayden Walters, Cael Summers, and Cameron Murphy all scored and assisted goals as the Black Bears moved to 4-0.

    Layton Massie and Blaze Klein shared time in goal. Massie had 4 keeper saves while Klein collected 3.

    Maysville 2, Tusky Valley 2: Cam Parker scored twice, including the game-tying penalty kick with 48 seconds left to help the Panthers earn a draw with the Trojans.

    Coshocton 2, Marion Harding 2: Kabe Bylaw scored a goal and assisted on Grant Hartsock's score, as Coshocton and Harding finished in a tie.

    Bylaw also made 13 saves for Coshocton.

    Morgan 10, New Lexington 0: Cole McGill had five goals and Jude Garber scored and assisted two more, as the Raiders (2-1 MVL) led 6-0 in a MVL win against the Panthers (0-3, 0-2).

    Braylon Miller, Tavian Myers and Luke Coleman had a goal and an assist apiece, Clayton Blackburn also scored, Aaron Baker assisted two goals and Jacob Roop and Brylee Shannon added an assist each.

    Steubenville 9, Cambridge 0: Quentin Stora had 12 saves in goal for the Bobcats (0-3).

    Girls Tennis

    Watkins Memorial 4, Zanesville 1: The Warriors outlasted the Devils in five matches.

    Watkins No. 1 Nora Grennan defeated Chloe Buchanan, 6-1, 6-2, No. 2 singles Kaiya Minier downed Jersey Nutter 6-3, 6-2, No. 1 doubles of Eva Payton and Lidia Bella won 6-3, 6-2 over Ava Puterbaugh and Sara Jarrett and No. 2 doubles Barbour Zerkle and Sanchez Workman downed Blair Lowe and Jazzy Spencer 7-6, 6-3.

    The lone win for Zanesville was at No. 3 singles where Bella Jarrett picked up a 4-6, 6-2, 10-8, super tiebreaker over Leah Maynard. The Devils return to action at home at 4:30 p.m. Thursday against Cambridge.

    Beaver Local 3, Cambridge 2: The Bobcats won both doubles matches as No. 1 Emma Krise and Miranda Cole beat Emily Wain and Aaddie Mobley 6-2, 6-2, and No. 2 doubles Selena Garcia and Reese Antill blanked Chensey Knapkiewicz and Lillie Wyse 6-0, 6-0.

    Kilee Jeffrey lost at first singles to Kara Wain 6-0, 6-0; MJ Lamphear lost at second singles 6-1, 6-0 to Kennedy Wilkes; and Madison Peebles lost 6-0, 6-1 at third singles to Laine Baumgarnier.

    Golf

    John Glenn 9th at Chapel Hill: C.J. Dolan shot 73 and Noah Dever 75 to pace the Muskies at the Columbus DeSales Invitational at Chapel Hill in Mount Vernon.

    Cooper Briggs added 80, J.T. Orecchio 82 and Hayden Gensor 85 for John Glenn, which shot 310 to place ninth of 23 teams in a deep field.
