    Hey Muskingum County: Here’s what you need to know to start your week

    ZANESVILLE − A GoFundMe account has been created for the family of Colt Rose to help pay for memorial expenses. Colt was involved in a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 40, near West Muskingum Schools, on Sept. 12, 2022. The collision resulted in severe injuries that left him in a vegetative state for nearly two years. The 23-year-old died Aug. 20. The GoFundMe goal is $2,600.

    ZANESVILLE − The Muskingum County Engineer's Office has announced White Eyes Road closed on Friday for 45 days from Barr Road to Highland Grange Road for a bridge replacement.

    NEW CONCORD − Swing's the Thing will close out the Celebrate New Concord summer concert series with a performance at 7 p.m. Aug. 27 at the village park. The 17-piece big band is based in Central Ohio and covers a wide range of musical and dance styles. This includes swing, rock, blues, cha-cha, rumba and polka. The concert will be moved to New Concord United Methodist Church for inclement weather.

    ZANESVILLE − MOBO Med Spa of Muskingum Valley is having an open house and ribbon cutting for its new location, 2501 Maple Ave., at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 30. The grand opening event is 3 to 6 p.m. Sept. 21. Offered services include wrinkle relaxers, dermal fillers, skin rejuvenation, body sculpting, Botox/Dysport injection and IV hydration.

    ZANESVILLE − The J.W. & M.H. Straker Charitable Foundation will accept applications for the fall grant cycle from Sept. 3 to Sept. 30. Awards will be announced in October. Standalone projects should be completed for $20,000 or less. Eligible to apply are 501c3 non-profit organizations, governmental entities and accredited educational institutions.     ZANESVILLE − The Scholarships Central Access Program at The Muskingum County Community Foundation is offering ACT prep classes. Courses will be via Zoom Sept. 15 and 22 and in-person Sept. 29 and Oct. 6. All sessions are 5 to 6:30 p.m. Registration runs Aug. 19 to Sept. 6.     NEW LEXINGTON − Lane Baker, Slade Allen, Eilley Fink and Wesley Friece of the New Lexington FFA chapter are national finalists for the 97th National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana. Lane earned the state title in forest management and products proficiency through his work with his family’s firewood business, Baker’s Bundled Firewood. Slade won the Social Systems Division 3 Agriscience Fair category for his research on adolescents' usage of insect repellent. Wesley and Eilley were champions of the Food Products Division 2 Agriscience Fair category for their research on cost effectiveness of protein sources.

    GOODLETTSVILLE, TENNESSEE − The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has recently announced more than $115,000 in youth literacy grants to non-profit organizations, libraries and schools across Ohio. This includes $4,000 to Morgan West Elementary in Malta and $1,000 to the Muskingum County Library System.

    ZANESVILLE − Zanesville City Schools Board of Education is seeking a candidate for the board of education, to fill the unexpired term of the recently resigned Janet Long. The term runs through Dec. 31, 2025. Interested applicants should submit a notice of interest in writing by Aug. 30 to Treasurer Michael Young, 956 Moxahala Ave.
