    Saturday Roundup: Meadowbrook CC claims Cambridge title; Sheridan's Ruthers sets school record

    CAMBRIDGE — Lucellia Casey was second and Marabelle Thornberry third to pace Meadowbrook to a team title at the Charlie Fondale Invitational on Saturday at Cambridge High School.

    Casey's 20:34.6 in the girls large school race trailed only Carrollton's Kylie Ujcich (20:13.8). Thornberry was at 20:56.3, while Karrah Singleton was fifth (21:49.6), Grace Kackley eighth (21:49.6) and Haylie Chorey 15th (22:58.5).

    John Glenn was ninth as Mackenzie Welch checked in at 12th (22:53.9) and Emma Smith 42nd (25:56.8), while Zanesville was 10th behind Shelbie Hammersley's 44th-place finish (26:13.1) and Miah Wilcox's 45th-place showing (26:22.7) and Maysville took 11th behind Olivia Rusnak in 29th (23:55.1). Philo was 12th as Allison Layton was 67th (28:47.5).

    River View didn't factor into the team standings but produced Emma Cochran's 14th-place finish (22:57.2) and Marie Maroni's 39th (25:31.8). Morgan's Elana Wilson was 27th (23:49.1).

    Morgan was fifth of 12 teams in the boys large school boys race as Clark Smith was third of 119 runners in 17:11.7. John Glenn was sixth (140), River View ninth (183), Meadowbrook 11th and Cambridge 12th (337).

    Rayden Tom was 18th (18:29.2) for Morgan; Carson Steimer was 23rd (18:41.5), Brandon Haines 36th (19:28.3) and Aiden Bankes fifth (19:55.1).

    Ethan Zell placed seventh (17:54.0), Kaid Ritchey 15th (18:23.1), Nick Bean 32nd (19:00.9) and Casey Whittle 49th (19:59) for John Glenn; Aidan Stevens-Woolery crossed in 20th (18:37.5), Trey Skjold 22nd (18:39.7) and Landon Cochran 45th (19:47.9) for River View and Grady Forbes was 35th (19:19.5) for Meadowbrook.

    Samuel Seckel was 58th for Cambridge (20:28.0).

    Ridgewood was sixth of seven teams in the small school boys race as Brodi Hardesty was 24th (19:55.2), Cohen Miller 37th (20:32.5) and Aydan Salmon 30th (20:38.5). Shenandoah, behind champion Jarrett Wentworth (17:00.3) and runner-up Chuck Estadt (17:21.2) won with 32 points.

    Crooksville's Luke Sheets was 11th in 18:40.1, West Muskingum's Jacob Agin 13th in 18:46.5, and Buckeye Trail's Carter Johnson came in 25th in 20:12.24.

    Ridgewood was fifth in the small school girls race as Kenzie Bice raced to a seventh-place showing in 21:14.6. Xanya Hasham was 32nd (25:49.8) and Ava Rauh Hill 36th (26:18.1).

    Crooksville's Hannah Sheets was sixth to lead area finishers in 20:58.8; teammate Angelina Wood was 30th (25:23.9). West M's Ayla Mowery was 21st in (24:01.5); and Buckeye Trail's Kloie Eagon placed 14th (23:03) and teammate Kayleigh Abrams 26th (24:49).

    Ruthers shines at Berlin Invite: Sheridan senior Tate Ruthers set a school record with a time of 15:13 on his way to a fourth-place finish in a Division I field.

    The boys were 22nd out of 30 teams, as Ruthers broke the mark set by Luke Brown's 15:24 and now has four of the top five teams in program history.

    Sheridan was 22nd of 28 teams in a field of mostly Division I teams in the girls race as Nora Covey was 60th in 20:13 and Sheridan Glanemann 79th in 20:31. Beckett Strong clocked at 21:03 and Adriana Pack 21:14 for 110th and 124th, respectively.

    Boys Soccer

    Maysville 3, Zanesville 0: Wyatt Mynes scored twice and Cam Parker added a tally to give Lance McGee a victory in his 350th match as head coach.

    Parker opened the scoring with 14:27 left in the first half on an assist from Mynes and Mynes added a second for Maysville just before the half on an assist from defender Hyler Smith.

    Mynes scored his second of the game, off an assist from Parker, at the 25:39 mark of the second half, while the Panther defense, led by Cyrus Melick, limited Zanesville to four shots on goal, all saved by goalkeeper Shepp Cosgrave.

    Greyson Goines had 12 saves in net for Zanesville.

    Maysville improved to 10-1-3 and prepares for a big MVL showdown with John Glenn in New Concord on Tuesday.

    John Glenn 5, Fairfield Union 2: Will Nicolozakes scored four times as the Muskies won their 10th game.

    Rosecrans 4, Philo 1: The Bishops scored three times before halftime in a nonleague win at Mattingly Family Field.

    Girls Soccer

    Coshocton 5, Cambridge 0: Zoey Tumblin scored four times in the first half, as Coshocton held a 12-6 advantage in shots in the shutout victory.

    Jersey Stipes found Tumblin for her first goal 13 minutes into the match. Tumblin added goals on assists by Nela Wiredu and Courtney Snyder, and also scored off an Olimpico goal off a corner kick.

    Tumblin assisted a Stipes goal in the second half, and Madi MacDonald made two saves for Coshocton (8-5), which travels to Johnstown for a boys-girls doubleheader on Monday.

    Rosecrans 5, Philo 1: Sydnee Maxwell had a first-half hat trick and Ryleigh Maxwell assisted a pair of goals as the Lady Bishops improved to 11-0-1.

    Mallory Moody and Elle Jones scored off Ryleigh's assists.

    Zanesville 2, West Holmes 1: Ayanna Stewart and Sadee McCuen scored goals, and keeper Reyna Dalton made seven saves for the Lady Devils in a hard-fought nonleague win at John D. Sulsberger Memorial Stadium.

    It was the third straight win for Zanesville (6-5-1), which hosts Sheridan on Monday for Senior Night.

    Volleyball

    Meadowbrook 3, Circleville 2: The Colts picked up a road win on Saturday to improve to a sparkling 17-1 with the five set victory over the host Tigers.

    Meadowbrook improved its winning streak to 15 consecutive victories with the road win.

    Senior Katie Stoney tallied 20 points, with 17 kills and three assists for Meadowbrook, with junior Addy Sichina dishing out a whopping 52 assists with eight points, nine digs. Natalee Norman tacked up 15 points, 15 digs, 11 kills, while Nora Smithberger finished with 19 kills, 13 digs and three points. Lyla Thompson chipped in with nine points, eight kills and Journey Nicola picked up a game high 30 digs with three points.

    Coshocton 3, Ridgewood 0: Coshocton had little trouble dispatching the rival Generals, 25-9, 25-16, 25-18.

    Buckeye Trail 3, Martins Ferry 1: The Warriors topped the Purple Riders 25-21, 25-9, 22-25, 25-15 to improve to 13-2 on the season.

    Anna McVicker paced the Trail attack with 19 points, seven aces, 16 digs, 24 assists, four saves, five kills, and a pair of blocks. Vayda Neuhart contributed 17 points, four aces, four digs, 20 kills and two blocks, while Sydney Patterson finished with eight points, 11 digs, and six assists. Kayla Hinkle racked up five points, three aces, nine digs, 25 saves and five kills.

    Maysville accepting HOF nominations: The Maysville Athletic Hall of Fame Committee is accepting nominations for the 2025 Class. Nomination forms can be picked up in the Maysville Administration Building or by emailing Athletic Director Pat.Miller@Maysvillelocal.org.
