McCONNELSVILLE − Philanthropist and artist Betsy Ross Koller will make three appearances in Morgan County.

She is presenting a painting this month to Ohio University in Athens. It is the fourth painting of a four painting series funding the OU Appalachian Scholarship. The $1 million scholarship fund is for young Appalachian adults.

Koller is a Columbus native, who grew up in southeaster Ohio. She began her painting in the early 1980s by studying Swiss naïve art. Her first award-winning show in 1985 launched a series of exhibits in Europe and the U.S. Her works can be found in museums, galleries and private collections worldwide. She has worked with several companies over the years, including the Nestle’ company, according to her website . UNICEF has regularly chosen Koller's works since 1991 as a featured artist in their Christmas Card collection. In 1996, “Buchanan Square” was selected from hundreds of artists' works to be featured on the cover of its 50th Anniversary Edition Catalog. Her artwork has generated more than $4 million for UNICEF.

Koller has numerous charitable projects. One of which is painting campus scenes for the University of Virginia at Wise, her alma mater Ohio University and her favorite prep school, Culver Academy in Indiana. Her works of these institutions have been donated for sale to benefit the various school’s scholarship funds.

While in Morgan County, Koller will also appear from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Stockport Mill, 1995 Broadway St., Stockport. The evening will feature a dinner, short film of Koller's life and a question and answer session. Koller will also be taking photos and signing items.

Additional McConnelsville appearances include a book singing from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 19 at Moco Local, 196 N. Kennebec Ave. and a tea will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Inns at Eighth and Main, where a short film will be shown and Koller will sign items. Seating is limited to 15.
