A Herkimer man was arrested Thursday after stabbing his mother to death, according to the Herkimer Police Department.

On Thursday, Aug. 29, at around 11:30 p.m., a call came into the Herkimer Police Department of a possible homicide at 360 Protection Avenue at Stone Ridge Orchards, Herkimer police said in a statement.

Officers responded to the apartment and were met with a male, later identified as Jeremiah Moore, 26, who made “...alarming comments regarding his mother.”

Officers checked the apartment and found the victim deceased in her bed.

Moore was taken back to the police station for an interview and willingly accompanied the officer, police said.

Meanwhile, officers on scene conducted a canvass of the area and interviewed several other tenants.

The Herkimer Police Department Evidence Specialists processed the crime scene while an investigator interviewed Moore at the station.

At the conclusion of the investigation, police determined Moore intentionally stabbed his mother to death.

He was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

Moore was processed, arraigned and remanded to the Herkimer County Correctional Facility without bail.

Herkimer was assisted at the scene by the Mohawk Police Department.
