Herkimer County Public Health confirms rabid bat in Cold Brook

The Herkimer County Public Health office has confirmed a bat from the town of Cold Brook has tested positive for rabies.

The bat was found in a residence on August 26 and sent for testing at Wadsworth State Labs.

Children and adults are reminded by Herkimer County Health to avoid contact with unknown animals and if a bat is found in their home, to not let it go. Instead, call Public Health at 315-867-1176 for guidance.

If there is a possibility the bat had contact with a person or animal in the house, call Public Health, and arrangements will be made to have the bat tested.
