    VOTE: Pick among 10 nominations for Mohawk Valley Athlete of the Week

    Welcome to the Times Telegram and Observer-Dispatch reader poll for a Mohawk Valley area high school athlete for the week of Oct. 7-13, 2024.

    Tennis player Lauren Levatino, a Whitesboro senior, followed New Hartford sophomore soccer player Maddie Truax, and football seniors Logan Hewitt from Central Valley Academy and Martino Rocco from Frankfort-Schuyler as the poll's fourth winner last week. There are 10 nominations - 12 names with two combined entries - to consider for Week 4.

    A weekly list of athlete of the week nominees will be compiled by our sports department with information provided to the Times Telegram and the Observer-Dispatch by coaches and athletic directors through emails and other contacts.

    If a top performer’s name doesn’t appear on the list, encourage their coach or athletic director to email submissions to sports@timestelegram.com or sports@uticaod.com.

    Online voting is open to readers and continues until noon Thursday. A winner will be announced Thursday evening on the TimesTelegram.com and UticaOD.com websites.

    This Week's Nominees:

    WYATT BEADLE, Little Falls football : Senior caught four touchdown passes from Jackson Hummel and threw the go-ahead touchdown pass to Jimmy Milianta in the second half of the Mounties' 32-22 win over Adirondack Friday. He also broke up a fourth down Adirondack pass into the end zone in the fourth quarter.

    CARTER COOKINHAM, Poland soccer : Senior scored two goals in each of three wins for the Tornadoes, and earned most valuable player honors for helping his team win Poland's annual Columbus Day tournament. Cookinham has multiple goals in each match of Poland's 5-0-0 start to the month of October - 12 in all, with three assists.

    NATHAN GEROUX, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill cross country : Junior won the boys' race on his home course at the 19th annual VVS Invitational with a time of 17:08.7, eight seconds head of runner-up and teammate Killian Bauer atop a 127-runner field. Geroux cut 55 seconds off his time from last fall's 12th place finish.

    GRETCHEN and GRACEN GRIMM, Clinton field hockey : Senior sisters rank first and second in Section III in points, and first and tied for third in goals. Gretchen Grimm (22 goals, 17 assists, 61 points) had two goals and one assist in each of the Comets' 13th and 14th consecutive victories; Gracen Grimm (20 goals, 11 assists, 51 points) had one goal and two assists in one game and four and three in the other. Teammate Leah Randall is the No. 2 goal-scorer with 21.

    PEYTON HOANG and SAGE HANIFIN, Oneida tennis : Doubles partners, a sophomore and an eighth-grader, won their match in a third set under the Parkway lights to break a 3-3 tie and earn the Class B Express a sixth consecutive Section III team title.

    ISIBEAL McMAHON, Rome Free Academy : Senior had two goals and one assist in each game ad the Black Knights defeated Camden, Cicero-North Syracuse and New Hartford, extending their current win streak to four games. Her first goal against Camden was the 50th of her varsity career.

    JACK STEWART, West Canada Valley football : Senior quarterback threw a 76-yard game-winning touchdown pass to John Tubia in the fourth quarter, and had a hand in each of the Nighthawks' touchdowns. He passed for 202 yards and two scores, and ran 62 and two. He also shared the team lead in tackles (12) with Caleb Grabowski.

    SHEA WILLIAMS, Notre Dame football : Junior listed as Section III sacks leader and leads the Jugglers in tackles while recovering two opponent fumbles.

    CARMEN YOUNGS, West Canada Valley soccer : Junior goalkeeper saved all three Poland penalty kicks in the second tie-breaker round of Sunday's Columbus Day tournament championship match and scored on a penalty kick of her own, the day after missing the Nighthawks' first round match with an injury.

    DAVID ZINICOLA, Westmoreland/Oriskany soccer : Senior keeper allowed a single goal for the Bulldogs who have shut out three of their last four opponents. Westmoreland/Oriskany has six consecutive wins with an 8-0-1 record in a nine-match unbeaten streak.
