Phlebotomist Suspended: Guilty of Domestic Violence

    2024-07-23

Pierce County Medical assistant-phlebotomist Jessica Ann Laughman has been suspended after she pled guilty to domestic violence charges, the Washington State Department of Health reported on Monday.

In June, the Secretary of Health indefinitely suspended Laughman's medical assistant-phlebotomist and registered medical assistant licenses, according to the DOH.

According to the DOH, Laughman severely beat and chocked her daughter repeatedly on Nov. 19, 2022, to the point that she induced vomiting. Laughman also took her daughter's phone to prevent her from calling for help before throwing the girl out of the house with the assistance of her husband, DOH investigators found.

Laughman pled guilty to fourth-degree assault-domestic violence on June 29, 2023 in the Superior Court of Washington for Pierce County, the DOH reports.

Before reinstatement, Laughman must contact a monitoring program and, if required, enroll in the monitoring program, according to the DOH.
