New Fishing Rules at Minter Creek: Limited Casting Zones & Salmon Restrictions

Anglers hooked on fishing at Minter Creek will be limited to where they can cast a lure, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced on Monday.

Per a new rule, the department reports, anglers will not be able to fish in exposed channels of the creek on tidal flats during low tides.

Instead, anglers will have to fish the mainstem of the creek above the high tide line or in the larger saltwater as the tide floods over the tide flats, filling the bay, according to the WDFW.

Salmon fishing is open from Sept. 1 through Dec. 31, from the mouth of the creek at Carr Inlet to markers about 50 feet downstream of the Minter Creek Hatchery rack, the department reports.

“Fishing legally and ethically helps to ensure enjoyable fishing trips for all,” said WDFW Lt. Kit Rosenberger. “Please respect private property. Public access along Minter Creek below the Creviston Drive bridge is now limited, as most of the area consists of privately owned tidelands.”

According to the WDFW, the daily limit at Minter Creek will be six salmon of at least 12 inches. Anglers can reel in four adults, including as many as two Chinook, two coho, or one of each, the department reports further. Wild coho will have to go free, according to the WDFW.
