Powerhouse Road Closure for Landslide Debris Removal

    2024-08-28

Crews will remove debris from a minor landslide near Powerhouse Road, the Washington Department of Enterprise Services reported on Wednesday.

The work is in response to a minor landslide which happened last winter and spilled onto the railroad tracks running alongside Powerhouse Road, the DES reports.

According to DES officials, crews are removing dead brush and silt to clear the area and restore the hillside, installing topsoil and netting, and reseeding the slope.

The work is scheduled for 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday through Friday, Sep. 3-30 on the south end of Heritage Park, next to the railroad tracks between the park and the hillside, according to the DES.

A 150-foot stretch of Powerhouse Road adjacent to the site will be closed during the work, DES officials say. The area will be reopened to railroad traffic and vehicles traveling to and from the Powerhouse, the DES reports further.

A temporary fence will go up near the closed section of Powerhouse Road in the grass to the north in the meantime, according to DES officials. However, the gravel walking path next to Capitol Lake will stay open, according to the department.
