Would-be pheasant hunters can hunt pheasants this month courtesy of the Vancouver Wildlife League and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced on Friday.

From Saturday, Sep. 14 through Sunday, Sep. 15, the VWL and the WDFW’s hunter education program will host their annual youth pheasant hunt at two locations on WDFW’s Shillapoo Wildlife Area near Vancouver, according to the department.

The events will be held on LaFrambois Road near the Vancouver Lake boat launch site on the Vancouver Lake Unit and at Lower River Road, past Frenchman’s Bar, near Caterpillar Island on the Shillapoo South Unit, the WDFW reports.

Youth ages 15 and under can sign up for the hunt by arriving at either location between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m., according to the WDFW.

All youth will be subject to a gun safety discussion before being allowed into the field and will be accompanied by an experienced adult volunteer, the WDFW reports. If necessary, a hunting dog will accompany all participants on the hunt, the department reports further. Lunch will be provided, according to the WDFW.

Hunters must wear 400 square inches of hunter orange or hunter pink and a Western Washington pheasant hunting license, the WDFW reports. Non-toxic shot is required, according to the department.

Hunting will happen from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and the bag limit will be two pheasants of either sex per day, the WDFW reports.
