A 40-foot section of Cushing Street near Harrison Avenue will be closed idefinitely, the City of Olympia reports. The closure follows a water main break from Saturday, Sep. 14, according to city officials. City crews intend to pave and reopen this area the week of Sep. 23, the city reports further.

New Regulations: High Voltage Safety Measures & AED Accessibility
New regulations will keep Washington workers farther away from high voltage systems and closer to medical aid, the state's Department of Labor & Industries reports. Per House Bill 1542 from state Rep. Dan Bronoske, D-Lakewood, employers who operate and maintain high voltage systems (of 601 volts or over) must keep automated external defibrillator (AEDs) onsite when two or more employees are working near high voltage lines and equipment.

Washington Bats Face Deadly Fungal Infection
A fungal disease deadly to bats has been detected in 11 new Washington counties this year where it continues to spread, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife reports. White-nose syndrome is caused by the fungus Pseudogymnoascus destructans, which can attack the skin of hibernating bats and damage their wings, essentially grounding them, according to the WDFW.

Youth Pheasant Hunt: Join Vancouver Wildlife League & WDFW
Would-be pheasant hunters can hunt pheasants this month courtesy of the Vancouver Wildlife League and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced on Friday. From Saturday, Sep. 14 through Sunday, Sep. 15, the VWL and the WDFW’s hunter education program will host their annual youth pheasant hunt at two locations on WDFW’s Shillapoo Wildlife Area near Vancouver, according to the department.
