    ‘We’ve got a lot of work to do’: Timpson begins clean-up in Beryl’s wake

    TIMPSON, Texas ( KETK ) – The people of Timpson are recovering after Tropical Storm Beryl hit the area on Monday.

    The storm caused significant damage to many homes and buildings, including city hall. Residents and city are in recovery mode.

    “The response was immediate, everybody pitched in” resident Tad Bailey said.

    Residents are dealing with downed trees, debris and power outages. It could take hours or days before power is restored.

    “We have crews coming in tomorrow to work on our electrical,” said Timpson Mayor Debra Smith said. “But we can’t energize Timpson until all of our infrastructure is up and safe.”

    City hall is also badly damaged including the interior and exterior.

    “This is not going to be a sprint this is going to be a marathon,” Smith said. “We’ve got a lot of work to do here at city hall, the guys in the field have a lot to do so just please be patient.”

    Smith said that above all else she grateful that everyone is okay after the storms.

    “Nobody as far as I know had been injured in the city of Timpson,”  Smith said. “we have a good bit of property damage but everyone’s working and coming together.”

    Residents said that it was raining all day but the damaging winds came and went very quickly.

    “I wasn’t scared, I was just astonished is what I was,” Bailey said. “It looked like winds with trees blowing past and rain and everything.”

    The City of Timpson encourages residents to check the city website and Facebook for updates and if you have an emergency to call 911.
