    Homemade Orange Sherbet

    The heat of summer is coming and there is nothing like some refreshing sherbet to help cool you off. Sherbet is a delicious frozen dessert that is made with made with fruit and a dairy product such as milk or cream. Sherbet has a much creamier and smoother texture and can be made in a variety of fruit flavors with the most popular being orange, raspberry, lemon and lime. There's also a variation called rainbow sherbet, which is made by combining layers of orange, raspberry and lime sherbet. Sherbet can also be used in a punch by just adding a liquid to it. One of the most popular party punch recipes is made with lime sherbet and 7 Up.

    This easy recipe for homemade orange sherbet contains just 5 simple ingredients and can be made with or without an ice cream maker.

    INGREDIENTS:

    • 2 cups of orange juice
    • 1 cup of granulated sugar
    • ¼ teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
    • 1½ cups of whole milk

    DIRECTIONS:

    1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, salt, orange juice, and vanilla until sugar has completely dissolved.
    2. Whisk in the milk then cover and chill in the refrigerator for about 1 hour.
    3. Pour and freeze the sherbet in an ice cream maker bowl or into a metal freezer safe bowl.
    4. Serve once the sherbet is frozen and enjoy! (It will take several hours to freeze)

    NOTES: If using an ice cream maker, make sure to freeze the bowl prior to making the sherbet.
    You can store the sherbet in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 weeks.
