ALDI to purchase all Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets

German discount retailer Aldi announced on Wednesday that they are purchasing all of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket's locations from parent company Southeastern Grocers for an undisclosed price. The majority of the Winn-Dixie and Harveys are located in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida. The deal to purchase the nearly 400 stores is set to close in the first half of 2024.

Louisiana currently has 28 Winn-Dixie locations. Aldi has 8 locations in the area with a store in Central scheduled to open on August 31st and 3 stores in Baton Rouge and Marrero currently under construction.

Aldi CEO Jason Hart said in a statement, "Aldi will operate Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores with the same level of care and focus on quality and service, as we also evaluate which locations will convert to the Aldi format to better support the neighborhoods, we’ll now have the privilege of serving."

Aldi was the fastest-growing grocer in the United States in 2022 for the fourth year running. The company plans to open an additional 120 stores this year and will have more than 2,400 locations by the end of the year. The company just recently opened a $100 million regional headquarters located in Loxley, Alabama, at the beginning of this year.
