Bridge City’s “World Famous” gumbo is cooked daily at the festival grounds and
over 2,000 gallons of both seafood and chicken/sausage gumbo will be prepared during the 3-day festival. In addition to gumbo, a variety of other native Louisiana cuisine such as jambalaya, New Orleans-style red beans and rice with sausage, hamburgers, hot dogs, fried seafood, homemade cakes and candies, funnel cakes will also be available.

The Gumbo Festival in Bridge City began as a small church fair in 1973 and is Jefferson Parish’s oldest festival. That year, Louisiana Governor Edwin W. Edwards issued a proclamation naming Bridge City, “The Gumbo Capital of the World”. The Gumbo Festival is held every second weekend in October and has continued to grow ever since. Admission is just $5 a day or $12 for a weekend pass. For more details on the festival, go to Bridge City Gumbo Festival.
