Watching the Tropics: Caribbean wave eyes lower Gulf

    2024-08-08

According to the National Hurricane Center, a tropical wave located in the Caribbean Sea could reach the lower Gulf of Mexico over the weekend.

Forecasters said that the system is moving west at around 20 mph, producing unorganized showers and thunderstorms over the southwestern Caribbean Sea and it is expected pass over Honduras and Bezile before re-emerging over the Bay of Campeche.

The system currently has a 20% chance of development over the next 7 days but it will enter warmer waters that make it more favorable for development later this week.

If the wave does develop, the next named storm would be Ernesto.
