Howllywood Comes to Wellsboro
Move over Sasquatch, there’s a new cryptid coming to the Tioga County, Pennsylvania woods. Technically Cocaine Werewolf has already been here, since Mark Polonia, the director, filmed this horror-comedy in December 2023. But this coked-up canine will steal Bigfoot’s spotlight on July 5 and 6, 2024, during the world premiere of the low budget cult film at the Arcadia Theatre in Wellsboro at 9 p.m. each night. Mark will be there, along with producers Tim Yasui and David Sterling, and much of the cast. A Q&A session will follow in the 200-seat theater. There’s an after party at the Gas Light Bar & Grill at 35 Main Street.

PA Wilds Center opens two new PA Wilds Conservation Shops
WELLSBORO — Two new PA Wilds Conservation Shops have opened this year in the Pennsylvania Wilds. Operated by the nonprofit PA Wilds Center for Entrepreneurship, these mission-driven gift shops help improve market access for rural entrepreneurs by sourcing 90 percent of their inventory from rural makers and businesses in the 13-county PA Wilds region, while also accomplishing other mission points.
DNA confirms human remains found in Tioga County were those of missing Westfield woman
The family of a Tioga County, Pennsylvania woman finally has closure a year after she went missing, and eight months after her car and human remains were located. Phyllis Potter, 85, of Westfield, disappeared July 21, 2023, triggering a massive search by Pennsylvania State Police at Mansfield and other agencies, along with hundreds of citizen volunteers.
State awards $1.5M to Victaulic for $100M expansion; project to create 214 new jobs
The Victaulic foundry in Lawrenceville will see a large expansion with an accompanying increase in new jobs, thanks to a $1.5 million grant from the state. On Tuesday, Governor Josh Shapiro announced the Commonwealth is investing $1.5 million to support Victaulic, the originator and world’s leading producer of grooved mechanical pipe joining and flow control systems.
Girl Scouts appoint Mansfield woman as member-at-large
The Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways Council announced appointments to its board of directors for 2024-25. GSNYPENN is a regional council chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA to deliver the Girl Scout Leadership Experience across 24 counties in New York and two in northern Pennsylvania. It is an independent 501c3 membership organization with adult volunteers, caregivers/families, Girl Scouts and alums actively engaged in strategic policy direction.
Man caught creeping on porches
Osceola, Pa. — A Tioga County man was charged after he was caught creeping around on the front porches of homes. State police at Mansfield were called in the early morning hours of June 17 to a home in Osceola Township for a report of a man on their front porch messing with the front door. Trp.
