Candor Mayor Accused of Stealing $23,000 from Village
New York State Police say the Mayor of Candor is charged after being accused of taking over $23,000 while he was still mayor. According to state police, Eric C. Halstead was arrested and charged with Corrupting the Government in the 2nd degree and Grand Larceny in the 3rd degree. Police say an investigation determined that over several years, Halstead took $23,000 in cash from a Village account for personal use. Police add that Halstead did replace approximately $19,000, but still owes money to the Village.

ITHACA, N.Y. — The mayor of the Village of Candor has been arrested and charged with allegedly stealing money from the village’s general fund for personal use. Eric Halstead, 67, was arrested yesterday after an investigation by the New York State Police and the New York State Comptroller’s Office. He was arraigned Monday on a third-degree charge of grand larceny and a second-degree charge of corrupting the government.

According to the New York State Police, 67-year-old Eric C.
