TIOGA, Pa. ( WETM ) — An animal shelter in Tioga, Pennsylvania, received a grant to help senior dogs have happier golden years.

Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries announced that it received a $7,800 grant from the Grey Muzzle Organization . The shelter will use this money to provide at least a dozen senior dogs with medical care, dental care, necessary supplies, and more. It will also use some of the grant funds for a campaign about senior dog care and the issues these dogs face.

“This grant will help us give senior dogs like 13-year-old Marley the veterinary and dental care he needs so he’ll thrive in his foster-to-adopt home,” said Jim Howe of Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries. “No one is more grateful or loving than an old dog, and we’re looking forward to helping more senior dogs get the second chance they all deserve.”

Second Chance was one of 100 animal welfare groups out of nearly 400 that applied to receive a Grey Muzzle grant this year. These groups received a total of more than $1 million from Grey Muzzle, which is the largest national nonprofit that focuses on the well-being of senior dogs. The organization has given away more than $5.7 million in grants since it was founded 16 years ago to help achieve its goal of making sure no old dogs die alone and afraid.

Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries is a nonprofit shelter that has been helping lost, abandoned, and at-risk cats and dogs in Tioga County, Pennsylvania, since 2001. This no-kill shelter has helped more than 1,500 cats and dogs find new homes and has reunited more than 200 strays with their owners.
