Temperatures and humidity increase as storms arrive for July 4th
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - After a fairly chilly start to the day (Canaan Valley dropped to 32 degrees!), highs were able to climb back to the 80s in most locations, even to 90° in some. Wednesday will likely see a few more locations reaching that 90° threshold despite a few more clouds in the sky than today. A low-pressure system is approaching from the west and will help to aid in the southerly flow causing warmer temps. Unfortunately, that system will bring a rise in thunderstorm activity just in time for the 4th. Scattered rain showers will become more numerous by Thursday morning and will continue in a scattered fashion across all of NCWV for the rest of the day. Afternoon and evening storms could produce strong, damaging wind gusts in isolated cases, but not everyone will face something severe. And, if there ends up being more rain and cloud cover in the first half of the day, it could limit the severity of all storms later in the day. However, rain is expected to get very heavy at times, so much of the area should keep an eye out for localized flash flooding within longer downpours.

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) -As Independence Day approaches, it gives us a time reflect on some of the important moments in our countries history that has helped contributed to making the U.S what it is today. One of those crucial moments was signing of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The bill, signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson, put an end to segregation; and gave Americans the equal opportunity to enjoy public accommodations without being descriminated against based on race, gender, or national origin. Today marks the 60th anniversary of the milestone that changed this country forever, and to honor that the Morgantown Public Library is hosting a celebration this evening. The night will feature local civil rights activists like ‚Al Anderson, who attended the 1963 March on Washington. Charlene Marshall, who helped integrate local restaurants. Not to mention an exhibit that tells the story of the historical act; designed by the community coalition for social justice. Eve Faulkes, the main designer of the exhibit not only wanted to tell the story of the civil rights movement as a national movement, but also a local one.
