Manchester District Library at risk of closure if millage does not pass
MANCHESTER, MI – A long-standing library is at potential risk of closure if Manchester voters do not pass a proposal on Aug. 6. The Manchester District Library is asking for a tax reduction, in order to contribute to reducing property taxes in the Manchester area. The 0.9999-mill tax for ten years, beginning in 2025, is on the primary election ballot. This tax proposal is a decrease from the previous millage of 1.045 mills.

Sheriff candidate taken to court for $21K in debt, says it makes her relatable
WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – Capitol One sued a Washtenaw County sheriff candidate for owing nearly $21,000, court records show. The credit card company filed a lawsuit against Alyshia Dyer, one of three Democrats appearing on the Aug. 6 primary ballot, in February. The debt was primarily daily living costs incurred while she was in graduate school, Dyer said, and she believes her the debt makes her more relatable to voters.
Sheriff candidate says licensing complaint, investigation ‘a made-up thing’
WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – The state is investigating a Washtenaw County sheriff’s candidate for allegedly misrepresenting himself as a social worker. A complaint filed May 14 with the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs pointed to Derrick Jackson’s campaign material and social media as evidence he has been improperly saying he is a social worker, according to documents obtained by a Freedom of Information Act request. A representative from LARA said the department does not comment on ongoing investigations.

Southern Michigan Bank & Trust is developing a new Jackson-area branch on the corner of Horton Road and Weatherwax Drive. Monroe County Sheriff's Office investigating 2 separate assaults on women
(CBS DETROIT) - The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating two separate assaults on women in Monroe Township this week. Officials say the first assault occurred in the early morning hours of July 15 in the Waterloo Park area. The second assault happened in the late evening of July 17 in a wooded area along Frenchcreek in the Meadowbrook Mobile Home Community.The perpetrator in both incidents was a man. Officials are working to determine if the same man is responsible for both assaults. The sheriff's office reminds residents to avoid being alone in dark, secluded areas and to be aware of their surroundings. Michigan State Police and Monroe police are assisting in the investigation. Anyone who may have information on these incidents is asked to call the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau at 734-240-7530.If you have been the victim of an assault and have not reported the incident, you're urged to call Monroe County Central Dispatch at 734-243-7070.
