Amenia Library wins 'Battle of the Books'
Director of the Amenia Free Library Victoria Herow and Alan Gamble celebrate their team’s initial victory in the annual Battle of the Books competition between Amenia and the NorthEast-Millerton Library at the Undermountain Golf Course in Copake on Saturday, July 27. Amenia’s best three scores combined to 88 besting Millerton’s 91. Jeff Harvey Sr. and Jr. for Millerton and Peyton and Kevin Dunlop for Amenia tied with 27 for the men’s scramble title with John and Julia O’Connell of Millerton taking the mixed doubles.

Brooklyn man arrested after high-speed chase on Taconic State Parkway
A Brooklyn man faces multiple charges after leading state troopers on a high-speed chase on the Taconic State Parkway last week. According to New York State Police, troopers stopped a 2014 Ford Taurus for traffic violations at approximately 9:30 p.m. near Pleasant Valley. When troopers approached the vehicle, the driver refused to comply with their commands to lower the windows and park the vehicle. The driver, identified as Aquino Walker, 30, then fled the scene.
NYPD identifies man, 28, who died in double shooting on Staten Island
STATEN ISLAND. N.Y. — The NYPD identified Shamel Massie as the 28-year-old man who died from injuries suffered in a double shooting in Mariners Harbor on Wednesday morning. Officers responded at 5:07 a.m. in front of 56 Roxbury St. between Grandview and Lockman avenues, according to a statement from the NYPD.
