    UPDATE

1:48 PM PT -- The shooting suspect was identified as Colt Gray, a 14-year-old male student at the school, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Hosey said in an afternoon press conference.

Two teachers and two students were killed, and nine others were injured, Hosey said.

    FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth

Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of an active shooter at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday. Law enforcement personnel arrived at the school within minutes -- and the suspect surrendered immediately and was taken into custody.

Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said the 14-year-old gave up, got on the ground, and a deputy took him into custody. Smith declined to identify the type of gun allegedly used by Gray. Authorities have been in contact with the suspect's family. Gray is cooperating with investigators, Smith said.

A school resource office engaged with the suspect, Smith said, and "the shooter quickly realized that if he did not give up, that it would end with an OIS" -- an officer-involved shooting.

Gray will be charged with murder and tried as an adult, Hosey announced.
