Strive For Contentment In Your Life
One day in kindergarten my teacher Mrs. Prusch asked each student what they wanted to be when they grew up. She made it through half of the class with answers of a ballerina, a police officer, a Mommy like my Mommy, a doctor, a teacher, and my favorite – a clown. Since I was in the S’s (last name Stobbe), she would be asking me that question the next day.
Hospice, Home Health, Or Palliative Care: What’s Right For You?
Finding the right type of care for an aging loved one can be confusing, especially when it comes to hospice, home health, and palliative care. While there are differences among them, there is also some overlap as a patient may journey from one type of care to another. Understanding the options and which best meets your needs is the first step.

When it comes down to it, how do you find your happiness? If feeling more joy is what you’re after, let Louisville’s longest-serving mayor, Jerry Abramson, serve up his insight—the same tips and ideas that have helped him sustain his optimism to this day.

Finding Shelter…At A Cemetery
Shelter is my guiding word for this year. It is a non-striving word. A shelter offers refuge, provides safety, and embraces calm and quiet. The pandemic arrived just about the time I started to incorporate a regular walking routine into my daily activities. At first I strolled around my Clifton neighborhood, but soon tired of traffic, noise, uneven curbs, sidewalk detritus, dog droppings, and fumes.

There are many benefits to having indoor plants in your home. Most importantly, “they make for a happy environment, help purify the air, and lighten the space,” says General Manager Kristina Haysley of Mahonia, a home decor store in the NuLu area of downtown Louisville. Filling in gaps...
Cool Tools For Tackling Summer – Part 1 of 2

While a beautiful, well-manicured yard can be a great place to spend a lazy afternoon, it can also be a lot of work. Luckily, there are a myriad of gadgets on the market that can help make yard work a breeze. Here are a few for you to consider.
Fitness Mindset: “I Get To Work Out!” (Part 1 of 2)
I played soccer in High School because we were required to play a sport. I really didn’t like all the running and would always end up with a cramp in my side. When I went to college, I was on the Equestrian team and our coach told us that we needed to get in shape. She required us all to take aerobics classes and start lifting weights using the old Universal machine. Honestly, after I started seeing results, I kept working out and never looked back! After my second son was born, I gained 40 pounds and aerobics wasn’t cutting it. I noticed that runners looked so fit, so little by little I started running and continued weight training. I had a close friend that would constantly ask me to run outside with her and finally, I agreed to go. It wasn’t long before I started running races. Numerous 5 and 10Ks, 14 half Marathons and 2 Marathons.

Looking For A Good Book? Here’s What We’re Reading This Summer
While a book about a death doula may not strike you as a fun summer read, The Collected Regrets of Clover is certainly an exception. Less about death and more about living life to its fullest, this book follows the adventures of Clover, a death doula, who travels across the country to help fulfill the final wishes of a client. In the process, she learns about herself and what she has really been missing in life.
Bonding Over Birdies
Sisters Judy Werst and Patsy Unclebach played golf together for the first time in 2001 when Judy moved back to the Louisville area. Growing up in Portland, the two had always been close, but the eight year age difference between them meant that Judy was leaving home as Patsy was starting high school. Both came to the game in their adult lives—in different ways and for different reasons—and today they treasure the hobby as another great way to spend time together. “Family means everything to us, and this was just another avenue to spend time together,” Judy says.

Ahhhh…The Summer Issue Is Out Now!
The word happiness gets tossed around quite a bit, but what does it really mean? Is happiness something you achieve, and once you get it, it’s yours to keep? Or is it more temporary, coming on like a pop-up storm, and then it’s gone, only to return again when conditions are just right?
Lighten Your Load With Humor
I have been told that I have a good sense of humor, but not at the expense of others. I do not laugh at people’s mistakes, distresses, or misfortunes. I feel compassion and look for ways to be supportive. I am less and less apt to engage in ridicule or sarcasm. I resist using comebacks when others are sarcastic toward me. I seek simply to feel the pain in both of us and look for ways to bring more mutual respect into our communication.
The Ride Of Her Life
At 72, Sarah Dutton proves it is never too late for adventure. For the past 25 years, she and her husband, Bill Stewart, have traveled in their 1965 Airstream camper (TinCan) throughout the United States. “She’s vintage, like us!” Sarah says. The couple has camped in all 48 of the lower states aside from Louisiana and North Dakota, but for the record, she’s visited those two states and just didn’t stay the night.

Fun On The Farm In The Great (Local) Outdoors
Basic Description: Seven generations of the Huber family have worked this farmland, growing fruit and making wines. The winery itself opened in 1978 and has continued to grow and thrive over the years. Huber’s fields produce fruits, vegetables, pumpkins, and Christmas trees, and the local community flocks each season to either shop or pick-their-own from the harvest. Visitors will also find a children’s farm park, farm market, cheese shoppe, ice cream shop, and gift shop. Banquet space is available for events large and small. Not only is Huber’s featured as one of nine wineries on The Indiana Uplands Wine Trail (Indiana’s first wine trail), it is also the site of Indiana’s first distillery, The Starlight Distillery.
Contemplating Your Next Move – Workplace Conversation About Ageism (Part 3 of 3)
“If ageism happens in your workplace, have some courageous conversations with people,” says Dr. John-Robert Curtin, professor at Indiana University and the University of Louisville. Have conversations with people you trust, and if you’re nervous to have that talk with someone in your organization, Dr. Curtin suggests speaking with a friend, family member, or religious leader first. “This gives you a chance to practice and think out loud,” he says.
