CLIVE, Iowa — One man is in custody and another was hospitalized after a stabbing at a Clive motel. Police say an argument between two males started around 3:30 a.m. Friday near the Days Inn just off Interstate 35/80. The suspect pulled a knife and stabbed the victim, according to police.

RAGBRAI Riders Departed Knoxville Thursday Morning
Thousands of RAGBRAI riders from all over the world left Knoxville on Thursday morning after their overnight stay. RAGBRAI’s stop in Knoxville was a success according to city employees, and showcased the town to a massive crowd. The event was made possible by hundreds of volunteers, who stepped up to work in several different areas during Wednesday’s festivities. RAGBRAI last came to Knoxville a decade ago and the Knoxville RAGBRAI Executive Committee spent months preparing to make the 2024 stop successful. Riders made their way to Ottumwa on Thursday and will now head to Mount Pleasant today.
ONE DEAD, ONE INJURED AFTER CRASH IN RURAL JASPER COUNTY
NEWTON — A crash in rural Jasper County on Wednesday night resulted in the death of a Des Moines man. According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State patrol, on Wednesday night, around 11:50pm, 41-year-old Michael Croy of Des Moines was driving a Mercury Cougar northbound on Highway S-74 south in Jasper County when the vehicle crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a Ford F450 driven by 62-year-old Karl Peters of Monroe. The F450 came to rest in the west ditch, while the Cougar came to rest in the roadway. Authorities arrived and pronounced Croy dead at the scene. Peters suffered minor injuries and was transported to Mercy One Newton for medical services.

The final report has been issued on a pilot project conducted by Iowa State University to update the online inventory of truck washes in the Midwest and assess three different methods for automatically recording truck wash events and market pig deliveries at packing plants. Swine Health Information Center Associate Director Dr. Lisa Becton says the study, funded by SHIC in partnership with the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research and Pork Checkoff, aimed to address the challenge of documenting truck washes between visits to slaughterhouses and return to swine barns.

Toledo Police Department searching for ‘masked man with a machete’
TOLEDO – A masked man wielding a machete may seem like something out of a horror movie, but it was a reality in Toledo this week. The Toledo Police Department released screenshots from a Ring Home Doorbell video on Monday that showed a masked figure brandishing a machete on a local resident’s doorstep. The TPD received two calls, both on Sunday the 21st, reporting sightings of the masked machete man. The first was at 1:16 a.m., and the second at 11:07 p.m. One report was of the masked man on the local’s doorstep ringing the doorbell, which had been captured by the Ring doorbell camera. The other report was of the masked man riding a skateboard and pointing his machete at a vehicle as it passed. The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect is reportedly close to being identified.
