Stephen Scott’s pinch-hit, two-run home run was the only offense for the Toledo Mud Hens, who fell 4-2 to the Columbus Clippers on Wednesday at Fifth Third Field.

The Mud Hens never led at any point and fell to 39-44 overall.

Scott’s first homer of the year came in the seventh inning off Columbus reliever Tanner Burns, plating Andrew Navigato (2 for 4, double), to bring Toledo within 3-2.

Bligh Madris (2 for 4, triple) singled and stole second base to lead off the eighth inning for the Mud Hens, who later failed to hit the ball out the infield in attempt to bring the tying run home.

Columbus’ Anthony Gose pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for the save. Reliever Hunter Stanley threw a scoreless fifth inning with two strikeouts to earn the win.

Losing pitcher Matt Manning pitched six quality innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts.

Angel Martinez (3 for 4) and Juan Brito (3 for 5, three doubles, 3 RBIs) each had three-hit nights to pace Columbus (37-46).

The two teams will play again at 4:05 p.m. at Columbus’ Huntington Park. Ty Madden (1-3, 8.51 ERA) will start for the Mud Hens against Columbus’ Joey Cantillo (0-1, 3.52).
