As golfers flock to Sylvania for the 40th Dana Open golf tournament, they will have plenty to keep them occupied when they’re finished on the green each day.

“The city of Sylvania is a small but mighty city,” said Lexi Burton, a leisure sales marketing specialist at Destination Toledo.

“Inside the Five is a really good option if people are looking to grab some dinner and good beer while they're at it,” Ms. Burton said.

She also suggested visitors looking to further explore the beer scene check out Upside Brewing, which is right across the street from Inside the Five.

“Also, they could check into the 419 Ale Trail while they're at it,” Ms. Burton suggested. “We just kicked off round four, and they can get some check-ins while they're in town and just make it a fun little extra thing to do.”

The 419 Ale Trail, organized by Destination Toledo, encourages people to check in to 30 participating breweries in the Toledo area. Each time participants officially checks in to a brewery using the “mobile exclusive passport,” which also offers deals and discounts to redeem during their visit, they will earn 200 points.

At 200 points, participants earn an exclusive sticker from any brewery location. 600 points merit an entry to win one of five $100-value gift baskets. At 1,200 points, participants are entered in a drawing for one of five $250-value gift baskets. Finally, participants who accumulate 2,400 points will be able to order a free 419 Ale Trail T-shirt.

Ken Wines, director of membership for the Sylvania Chamber of Commerce, suggested people check out Pizza Palooza, which started Friday continues Saturday at Centennial Terrace from 5 to 11 p.m. The event features 12 pizza vendors, ice cream, lemonade, and kettle corn amid live music.

Those looking for outdoor activities can also visit Olander Park, Sylvan Prairie, Whetstone, or Fossil Park — where people can search for actual fossils — per Mr. Wines.

He also recommended visitors stop by any of the restaurants in the downtown Sylvania DORA district, where both Upside Brewing and Inside the Five are located. Mr. Wines added that Historic Sylvania, including the historical village called Heritage Sylvania and the Lathrop House, was worth a visit.

In addition, Ms. Burton suggested visitors looking to explore beyond Sylvania check out downtown Toledo. She recommended going to a concert downtown or squeezing in a Toledo Mud Hens baseball game. After the game, visitors should make sure to hear the live music at Hensville Park, which is right across the street from Fifth Third Field.

Judd Silverman, Dana Open tournament director, also recommended the Mud Hens. He said visitors could also check out the Toledo Zoo, the Toledo Museum of Art, and one of Toledo’s many metroparks, such as the Glass City Metropark.

If they have a lot of time on their hands, they could even make the trip over to Cedar Point — an amusement park on the coast of Lake Erie that is about an hour and a half’s drive from Sylvania — Mr. Silverman said.

Lea MacLaren, regional director of operations at the Sylvania Wingate by Wyndham hotel, recommended spending time in downtown Sylvania as well, particularly by checking out the local shops after stopping by the breweries.

She recommended as well the walking trails that are behind the Wingate that run along the path through ProMedica Flower Hospital.

Ms. Burton encouraged visitors looking for anything else to do in the Toledo area to look at Destination Toledo’s event calendar, which can be found at visittoledo.org/events .
