Cyclist killed in hit-and-run accident in North Toledo

A man riding a bicycle in North Toledo was killed early Tuesday when a pickup truck hit him from behind and dragged him and the bike several yards before fleeing, police reported.

Nicholas T. Reinhart, 30, was riding westbound in the 200 block of East Alexis Road around 2:40 a.m. Tuesday when an unidentified truck also westbound on East Alexis struck him. The bike and Mr. Reinhart became stuck under the truck and were dragged several yards down the road before being dislodged.

The pickup and its driver left the scene but, based on debris left behind, police surmise it was a white Dodge.

A third vehicle, driven by Dominik McKenzie, 22, of Newport, Mich., was also headed west on East Alexis and and came across the bicycle and Mr. Reinhart in the road and immediately called 911. Mr. Reinhart was pronounced dead at Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center.
