Bail is set at $10,000 for a Toledo man accused of violating a no-contact order and assaulting a woman in the 100 block of Island Road on Tuesday.

Joel Patrick Craig, 61, is accused of grabbing a pot of macaroni and cheese the woman was making at the Island Road residence and throwing it at her twice before shoving the macaroni into her face, according to court documents. He then allegedly shoved her down onto a bed and struck her multiple times in the face, back and head.

“(Craig) eventually let her go, but stated that if he was going to jail, he would make it worth it,” according to charging documents filed in Lewis County Superior Court on Wednesday.

The Toledo Fire Department reported the incident to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office later in the day on Tuesday, July 9, as medical personnel were treating the victim for injuries.

Responding deputies photographed bruises to the woman’s neck, face, chest and thigh, according to court documents.

The victim advised deputies that “Mr. Craig was coming down from crack” and “he generally gets violent when he is coming down from drugs.”

A domestic violence no-contact order in favor of the woman that was issued as part of a 2023 Pierce County Superior Court conviction was active at the time of the incident, according to court documents.

Craig was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail just after 5:50 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, according to jail records.

He was charged Wednesday, July 10, with one count of third-degree assault, domestic violence, and two counts of violation of a court order, domestic violence.

A Lewis County Superior Court judge has issued a new domestic violence no-contact order in favor of the victim prohibiting Craig from having any contact with her until this case is resolved.

His conditions of release also include an order prohibiting him from possessing any weapons.

Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, July 18.
