Current Situation: The Easy Fire is burning through dense timber, dead trees, and ground vegetation on very steep terrain. Portland launches the Office of Arts & Culture

The organization was previously responsible for doling out grants and providing art advocacy for the city. Now, Portland’s Office of Arts & Culture has taken shape and has found organizations, including RACC and MusicOregon, to help administer grants to artists and creators. The city itself will be working on arts advocacy and education. We hear more about how Portland plans to partner with creators from Chariti Montez, the director of the new office.
Newborn discovered dead in North Portland, police say
PORTLAND, Ore. — Police are investigating after a newborn baby was found dead in North Portland's Kenton neighborhood on Friday morning. The Portland Police Bureau said that officers responded around 11 a.m. after receiving reports of a dead infant near North Fenwick Avenue and North Argyle Street, an area tucked between Interstate 5, North Interstate Avenue and North Columbia Boulevard.

Iconic Portland Drag Club Darcelle XV Is at Risk of Closing
The Oregonian reports that Darcelle XV Showplace, a beloved, longstanding Portland drag club, is at risk of shutting down due to poor attendance during its usual peak season. One of the co-hosts and performers at Darcelle XV, Kevin Cook, who performs under the name Poison Waters, told the publication that summer is often the busiest time of year for the club, but that this season has been an outlier. Teenage girl arrested in relation to man found dead near Wilsonville
A teenage girl was recently arrested in connection to a man found dead near Wilsonville last May. Oregon State Police Public Information Officer Kyle Kennedy confirmed in an email that Oscar Lizardo Chaides, a 42-year-old from Salem, was found dead by OSP on May 29. Chaides was found after someone noticed a man lying on the right shoulder of I-5 south near the Charbonneau off ramp, exit 282. Kennedy confirmed that a teenage girl, who has not been named, was arrested in connection to the case. The charges have not been disclosed.
