10 most expensive homes sold in the Portland metro area, July 15-21
A house in Lake Oswego that sold for $5.5 million tops the list of the most expensive residential real estate sales in Portland metro area in the past week. In total, 401 residential real estate sales were recorded in the area during the past week, with an average price of $641,052. The average price per square foot was $343.
Tillamook locals compete in Schwingfests
A group of five locals have started the Swiss Alpine Wrestling (Schwingen) Club as part of the Tillamook Swiss Society and have been competing at regional tournaments, known as Schwingfests. Cody and Koi Smith, and George, Josef and Klaus Durrer all traveled to Frances, Washington, on the weekend of July 13-14, to compete in the Lewis-Pacific Swiss Society Schwingfest. George and Codi competed in the senior division of the competition, with Codi tying for seventh place in the 11-man event. Koi finished in third place in the junior competition against other 15–17-year-olds. Josef also won the Steintossen, or stone toss, event for the 12-to-14-year-old age group, with a toss of 12 feet. The group, coached by Branden Spahr, will return to competition on August 3, at the Portland Swiss Schwingfest.

Microplastics are a global environmental issue that particularly impact coastal communities. There aren’t a lot of ways to remove small pieces of plastic from our environment so our team decided to attempt to tackle a collection device. Part of Tualatin River Greenway Trail completed behind Roamer's Rest RV Park
One more section of the Tualatin River Greenway Trail is now complete — a 12-foot-wide concrete portion that spans one-half mile — constructed behind River Ridge Apartments and Roamers Rest RV Park off of Highway 99W. Oregon high school football coach accused of slapping players appears in court
An Oregon high school coach who allegedly woke players up in the middle of the night during a team camp and began slapping them appeared in court on Wednesday. Jamal Jones, the 32-year-old former head coach of Westview High School (Portland, Ore.), appeared at Yamhill County Courtroom on 12 counts of misdemeanor harassment, according to KGW8. According to outlets including KGW8 and KPTV, during a camp at Linfield University in late June, Jones allegedly entered the room of the athletes around 1 or 1:30 in the morning. Oregon conservationists win funding to restore riverside habitats
A conservation group in Springfield has won $8.5 million in federal funding, which will pay for floodplain restorations along the Willamette River and its tributaries. The plan is to reconnect waterways in the Upper Willamette Basin to several of their historic offshoots and side-channels. The McKenzie Watershed Alliance is receiving federal dollars on behalf of its partners in the Upper Willamette Stewardship Network.
