Arizona Governor Hobbs Copies Border Plan From Texas Governor Abbott

Governor Katie Hobbs takes a plan from Texas Governor Greg Abbott to help secure Arizona’s border. She ordered the Arizona National Guard to help secure the State’s border with Mexico from illegal immigrants.

Arizona has seen a large number of migrants cross the border for the first term governor. Early in her administration, she sought to rely on President Joe Biden and the Congress to help Arizona secure its border. After nearly 12 months, she has seen little support.

Now, she is copying what Texas is doing by calling up the National Guard to secure its border.

Governor Hobbs said according to her press release on December 15:

“Yet again, the federal government is refusing to do its job to secure our border and keep our communities safe. With this Executive Order,

I am taking action where the federal government won’t. But we can’t stand alone, Arizona needs resources and manpower to reopen the Lukeville crossing, manage the flow of migrants, and maintain a secure, orderly, and humane border. Despite continued requests for assistance, the Biden administration has refused to deliver desperately needed resources to Arizona's border.”

A week earlier, Governor Hobbs asked President Biden to reassign the Arizona National Guard to re-open the Lukeville Port of Entry. Governor Hobbs then mobilized the National Guard to secure Arizona’s border.

Hobbs is likely taking a playbook from the Texas Governor who has used the National Guard to help Texas secure its southern border along with the Department of Public Safety and Customs and Border Patrol. She will have the National Guard along several areas along the border according to ABC News.

There were several instances this year where Arizona had the most migrants cross its border among all border states according to this New York Post article.
