Governor Abbott Flies 200 Migrants To A Northeast Sanctuary City

A flight with migrants was scheduled to fly into New York City but was diverted to Philadelphia due to weather. Texas Governor Greg Abbott appears to have added air travel as a way to transport migrants to sanctuary cities.  

It was just last week that Texas flew migrants to the city of Chicago. City Council recently passed a law requiring migrant buses to have the proper paperwork for Chicago and to bus migrants to the correct location. 

Instead of getting the paperwork, Governor Abbott had migrants fly in by chartered airplane. 

According to the Texas Tribune, Governor Abbott’s spokesperson Andrew Mahaleris said:

"Because [Chicago] Mayor [Brandon] Johnson is failing to live up to his city's ‘Welcoming City’ ordinance by targeting migrant buses from Texas, we are expanding our operation to include flights to Chicago, like the Biden Administration has been doing across the country.”

“Until President Biden steps up and does his job to secure the border, Texas will continue taking historic action to help our local partners respond to this Biden-made crisis.”

Instead of limiting flights to just Chicago, Governor Abbott is now explaining this to other cities. A Tuesday flight bound for New York City was diverted to Philadelphia carrying over 200 migrants according to ABC 7. 

A spokesperson for New York City Mayor Eric Adams said according to ABC 7:

"Last night - in another inhumane act of treating human beings like political pawns - Texas attempted to send an unannounced and uncoordinated plane with migrants to New York City that was only diverted to Philadelphia due to extreme weather, but whose passengers were then transported here via bus." 

"Last week, 14 rogue buses from the State of Texas arrived in a single night, the highest number recorded by the Arrival Center." 

As Texas sees migrants cross the southern border, Governor Abbott is using all his means to send migrants to sanctuary cities.
