New York Mayor Issues New Rules For Migrant Buses

To get better control of buses with migrants arriving in New York City, Mayor Eric Adams announced new rules on Wednesday, December 27. At a news briefing, Mayor Adams made the announcement as he expects more buses to arrive.

Mayor Adams could also be taking an initiative that the Chicago City Council made as it requires migrant buses to have the proper paperwork. This caused Texas Governor Greg Abbott to start flying migrants to sanctuary cities including Chicago and New York City.

On Wednesday, Mayor Adams said according to NY 1:

“We cannot allow buses with people needing our help to arrive without warning at any hour of day and night. This not only prevents us from providing assistance in an orderly way, it puts those who have already suffered so much in danger.”
“To be clear, this is not stopping people from coming, but about ensuring the safety of migrants and making sure they can arrive in a coordinated and orderly way.”

Buses will only drop off migrant passengers at one location — the Port Authority Bus Terminal on West 41st Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues. The City’s Emergency Management department will provide changes as needed.

    Mayor Adams added:

“New York City has begun to see another surge of migrants arriving, and we expect this to intensify over the coming days as a result of Texas Governor Abbott’s cruel and inhumane politics.”
We are proud to have helped nearly 60 percent of the more than 161,000 migrants who have come through our intake system move out of shelter. But cities cannot continue to do the federal government’s job for them. We need federal and state help to resettle and support the remaining 68,000 migrants currently in New York City’s care and the thousands of individuals who continue to arrive every single week, and for Governor Abbott to finally stop the games and use of migrants as political pawns.”
“I'm proud to stand with Mayor Johnson [Chicago mayor] and Mayor Johnston [Denver mayor] and push for more federal support for cities impacted by this growing humanitarian crisis. This executive order will also ensure safe, orderly, and coordinated bus arrivals going forward, and will hold accountable those bus companies that refuse to coordinate with us.”

Do you think Governor Abbott will fly more migrants to New York City?

Everyone agrees there is a problem with the border, but unfortunately all they want to do is blame the other party for not doing anything to solve the problem. How about they work together, instead of against each other, and actually come up with a solution. Transporting the people via buses and airplanes are not a solution and I do think all states should receive them. Better solution is not to let them in until they are approved to come into the states legally. I know it’s hard to do when they are coming across by illegal methods and are undocumented. But this is not a new problem and has been an issue for decades under both Republican and democratic presidents. Unless you are going to built a wall surrounding the United States, this problem will continue.
