New Jersey Governor Requests More Detail on Migrant Buses

Mayor Eric Adams is making it harder for Texas Governor Greg Abbott to send migrants to his sanctuary city. Last month he put in strict orders on when buses can arrive. 

Governor Abbott didn’t let that stop him. Since then he has bussed over 1,800 migrants to nearby New Jersey. From there, migrants found transportation to New York City which was only miles away. 

This caused New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy to demand more information on the arrival of migrant buses to his state. He recently made an announcement asking for more information on the arrival of migrants to help provide for their health and safety. 

Governor Murphy said in a press release on January 8:

“As we continue to see more migrants arrive to our state at the hands of the Governor of Texas, who is reportedly funding the passengers’ transportation with taxpayer funds, notice to New Jersey officials in advance of these individuals’ anticipated arrival is critical to ensuring the health and safety of passengers once they arrive in New Jersey.” 

“Additionally, because we know the vast majority of these individuals are intending to travel to New York City, this information will be shared with our colleagues across the Hudson to ensure the passengers’ health and safety there.”

In the request, Governor Murphy asked bus companies to provide a 32-hour notice of arrival. In addition, he wanted information on the bus departure time, the number of passengers, the number of children under 18 and single adults, and the expected drop-off location. 

As in past migrant buses, Governor Abbott has not provided much detail on the bus arrivals and itinerary. We’ll see if the bus companies provide any information to Governor Murphy.

According to the New York Post, Governor Abbott said Mayor Adams should sue President Biden and not the bus companies.

“He needs to be suing Joe Biden, not these bus companies. Because it’s Joe Biden and Joe Biden’s policies that’s causing the massive, multimillion [migrant] influx into the United States that leads to many of them wanting to go to New York.”

Governor Abbot is challenging Mayor Adams since New York City is a sanctuary city.
