Texas Governor Greg Abbott was sent a crushing blow by the U.S. Supreme Court which ruled that States can’t overrule the Federal government as it stood with the Biden administration. The ruling gives the Biden administration authority over the border.

The Biden administration and Governor Abbott have fought over border security. Abbott thinks President Joe Biden is not doing enough to secure the southern border. The Biden administration thinks Governor Abbott goes too far and prevents U. S. Border Patrol access to do their job.

This has caused Governor Abbott to bus over 100,000 migrants to sanctuary cities since the spring of 2022.

Last year Border Patrol said the Biden administration allowed over 269K illegal immigrants to cross the border.

In the latest U. S. Supreme Court ruling, Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Amy Coney Barrett joined the court’s three liberal justices Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor, and Ketanji Brown Jackson in issuing the order. Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh voted to leave the order in place.

Andrew Mahaleris, a spokesperson for Abbott, said in a statement according to The Texas Tribune:

“The Biden Administration has repeatedly cut wire that Texas installed to stop illegal crossings, opening the floodgates to illegal immigrants. The absence of razor wire and other deterrence strategies encourages migrants to make unsafe and illegal crossings between ports of entry, while making the job of Texas National Guard soldiers and DPS troopers more dangerous and difficult.”
“This case is ongoing, and Governor Abbott will continue fighting to defend Texas' property and its constitutional authority to secure the border.”

Governor Abbott is currently in India but posted on X, which is formally Twitter, his stance on the announcement.

You can hear more details about the ruling in this video.

Do you think this court ruling will make things worse along the border?
