Governor Abbott Said Biden Administration is Failing the Border Crisis

The border crisis continues to escalate between Governor Greg Abbott and President Joe Biden on how to stop illegal immigrants. After the U.S. Supreme Court supported the Biden administration in their recent vote on the border crisis, Governor Abbott shared his thoughts. 

The Supreme Court said Texas cannot stop federal agents from doing their job to handle the migrant crisis.

On Wednesday, January 24, Governor Abbott shared his thoughts about the Biden administration. 

Governor Abbott said in a statement according to a press release:

"The Executive Branch of the United States has a constitutional duty to enforce federal laws protecting States, including immigration laws on the books right now.” 

"President Biden has instructed his agencies to ignore federal statutes that mandate the detention of illegal immigrants. The failure of the Biden Administration to fulfill the duties imposed by Article IV, § 4 has triggered Article I, § 10, Clause 3, which reserves to this State the right of self-defense. For these reasons, I have already declared an invasion under Article I, § 10, Clause 3 to invoke Texas’s constitutional authority to defend and protect itself. That authority is the supreme law of the land and supersedes any federal statutes to the contrary."

Then Governor Abbott is gaining support from fellow Republican members of Congress over the crisis.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) threw his support behind Governor Abbott and wrote on X, which is formerly Twitter:

“I stand with Governor Abbott. The House will do everything in its power to back him up. 

The next step: holding Secretary Mayorkas accountable.”

According to Rolling Stones, Johnson’s endorsement follows support from Republican governors and lawmakers in Congress including Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt, and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp. 

Many of these governors also sent support to help support Governor Abbott and Operation Lone Star to defend the southern border that he announced last May.
