With Governor Greg Abbott continuing to lead Texas over the migrant border crisis, some believe Texas wants to succeed from the United States. Between social media, the news media, and local Texans, leaving the United States may not be the best answer today.

This started with the federal government’s use of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to handle migrants. Earlier this month, Governor Abbott limited their use as the Texas National Guard took over Shelby Park in Eagle Pass. Border Patrol uses the park to conduct its current operations, but illegal immigrants also use it since it borders the Rio Grande.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5 to 4 that the federal government had the authority to handle the migrant crisis in Texas according to The Texas Tribune. Governor Abbott didn't agree with the ruling and continued to allow Texas to handle the migrant crisis. The Biden administration said according to KSHB that Texas had until Friday, January 19 to allow border patrol access.

Texas was a republic from 1836 to 1845 when the United States annexed it according to The Texas Tribune. Over the years, people have joked or hinted that Texas would secede from the United States.

The recent move by Governor Abbott is causing some to reignite this talk.

Daniel Miller who wrote the book, TEXIT, Why and How Texas Will Leave the Union, is another one.

Then on TikTok, Ryan Telfer said according to Fox 4:

“Texas has basically started the process of becoming its own country. This is a little scary because this is usually how civil wars begin.”

If Texas seceded, this would cause many issues that Texans rely on.

True Tamplin, the founder of Finance Strategists, said to Newsweek

"If Texas were to become an independent nation, it would no longer be part of the U.S. Medicare system, as Medicare is a federal program operated by the U.S. government."

It’s unlikely Texas will succeed at any time in the future.

    What do you think?
